I have a reservation using Marriott Rewards points for the London Park Lane for next April. Do you have to pay the taxes for free rooms? This could add up on luxury hotels. Thanks. Linda

Thanks. I was curious if the situation is different outside of the US. I don't want to be in for any big surprises! Linda

One will get a big surprise at the Renaissance Harbor View in Hong Kong, to the tune of about US$30/day

I've not payed any taxes on certificate usage until I stayed at the Tokyo Ginza property a little over 2 weeks ago. I was hit with a "Service Charge" and taxes on the "Service Charge". I had posted this here, and other posters also had noted a similar charge.

It appears it varies depending upon the location. What was the "service charge" for? Linda
