I am sure that someone here can answer this. I almost never check bags but on a return connection from Asia I will be checking three from JFK-SCL-EZE. I will be going landslide at SCL because I have a 7 hour layover and I plan to take a day room at the Holiday Inn across from the terminal. My question is: Is there any restriction saying I must collect my bags in SCL if I am going landside? Or since it is a relatively short time will there be no issue at all leaving them checked through to EZE?

Poor Plashba, no one answered you :(

In can't think of any reason you'd need to collect your bags, just let them transfer internationally.

How would the check-in agent know that you are going landside? In fact, most would assume that you probably are not. The only way that the bags would end up on the baggage carousel @ SCL is if they were short-checked to SCL. (Although I might suggest that you make sure they don't show up at baggage claim, you'd probably want to be either in the bed or the shower at the HI by the time the baggage has all arrived.)

Thanks for the replies. I am not going to worry about it then. :)
