My question is specific to IAD. There is a centralized security for all airlines. Can I use my *S card to access priority security while flying a non-star airline?
Thanks

Thanks UAPremExecflyer Aug 24, 12, 4:16 pm My question is specific to IAD. There is a centralized security for all airlines. Can I use my *S card to access priority security while flying a non-star airline? Thanks No. Because *S doesn't get you access to the priority line. And no because you're not flying *A. Jimgotkp Aug 26, 12, 2:33 am *S qualifies one for Premier Access which includes priority security, no? vbroucek Aug 26, 12, 3:52 am *S qualifies one for Premier Access which includes priority security, no? *S qualifies for various perks with your own airline, but in general, it does not qualify you for nearly anything... Here it is from the official source: http://www.staralliance.com/en/benefits/frequent-flyer/gold-silver-status/ On top of that, OP is not going to fly Star Alliance airline, so the discussion is irrelevant because all the perks apply only and only if flying Star Alliance. RTW1 Aug 26, 12, 6:06 am No. Because *S doesn't get you access to the priority line. And no because you're not flying *A. *S does get you premier access when flying UA.... but since he won't be flying UA it's irrelevant. Often1 Aug 26, 12, 7:26 am TSA adjusts the # of lanes to the rough # of pax in premium vs. steerage lines, so any form of premium at IAD is essentially worthless. That said, the card does not get OP access on the facts he presents. That said, he can try. The checkers are not all rocket scientists and most could care less. UAPremExecflyer Aug 26, 12, 11:01 am *S does get you premier access when flying UA.... but since he won't be flying UA it's irrelevant. Premier Access is different from premium security lane. *S has no access to the premium lane at IAD, not that it makes a whole lot of difference. Please don't put words in my mouth. RTW1 Aug 26, 12, 11:20 am UA seems to imply it does... And I got access to it at SEA and SFO three weeks ago when I was there as a M&M silver. And lighten up..... Biginch Sep 1, 12, 11:16 am Premier Access is different from premium security lane. *S has no access to the premium lane at IAD, not that it makes a whole lot of difference. Please don't put words in my mouth. all they wanted to see was my boarding pass ("premier access" printed across the top) and waved me into the "premium passenger" security line at IAD. Or we could ask UA directly: And the answer is......http://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/products/premieraccess/default.aspx *S does indeed get access to premium security lanes when flying UA. OP - still irrelevant as you're seemingly not flying UA. jake66 Sep 3, 12, 7:52 am Or we could ask UA directly: And the answer is......http://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/products/premieraccess/default.aspx *S does indeed get access to premium security lanes when flying UA. OP - still irrelevant as you're seemingly not flying UA. At my home airport, San Diego, *S will not get access to premium security lanes, even when flying UA. It is limited to *G. I know that is not the case at all airports though. RTW1 Sep 3, 12, 7:56 am You don't get access with your *S card... but if you have a UA ticket you will get "Premier Access" printed on your boarding card. And that is normally sufficient to get you through the priority lanes. But as with most thing in US airports, it's inconsistent at best :) gnaget Sep 6, 12, 12:34 am My experience with IAD is that they allow anyone with a pulse into the premium security line. That's one reason why it is useless and just as slow as the regular line. All that happens is that there are separate lines up to the TSA ID checker and then the lines merge again. I bet that the OP can flash his silver card and access the line. I have actually seen it happen. A UA *S flying another airline clutching her Premier card. sparkchaser Sep 6, 12, 3:24 am I have used my *A Silver card successfully to get into the premium security line several times at FRA. Of course that datapoint doesn't help you for IAD. LDNConsultant Sep 18, 12, 4:06 am This might be off topic but I have used British Airways Silver Membership to get priority security and lounge access at Terminal 1 and 3 for Star Alliance and Virgin Flights. Indelaware Sep 28, 12, 12:41 pm Yes, not a problem. Just flash your *S card as you enter the line. You won't be asked for your BP until you get to the TSA. |
