Southwest Rapid Rewards - Rude female FA at Jax this evening

I rarely complain about staff in my post, but an FA in JAX tonight really rubbed me the wrong way.

Everyone here has seen this - someone is boarding and puts their suitcase in wrong and then tries to force the door closed..

So I had boarded and a co-worker was sitting across from me and we are chatting and out of the corner of my eye I see this woman pushing on an overhead bin door trying to get it closed. Out of nowhere appears this FA, and literally SCREAMS in this woman's face, "STOP IT!! YOU'RE GOING TO BREAK MY DOOR!!!" then rips the door away from the woman and starts rearranging the suitcase so it fits right, while continuing to ream this woman about how if she were to break the door it would require them to be delayed on the ground for a maintenance call. The woman who had tried to force the suitcase in was apologizing profusely but this woman just continued to ream her.

Not sure if SWA management reads these forums, but the FA's name was "Laura Lee" or something like that and the flight was JAX-BWI this evening.

Totally uncalled for and everyone within 5-6 rows and those in line boarding were shocked at this FA's behavior

Even though this did not happened to you directly, you still should write SWA about this particular FA. And if you have other witness(coworker?), have them write it in also so management knows you are making this stuff up.

That is totally uncalled for on the FA part.

A few summers ago I'm with my daughter and as an A+ CP holder I did the honorable thing and boarded with her B-something boarding pass. When we get on the plane the overhead space was all but gone. I slid my roller bag in wheels out and tried to shut the door. It wouldn't close. No other place to put my bag, so I start trying to force the door shut. I break the door.

Long story short...the FA had to pull everyone's bags from the overhead and check them as checked bags and duct tape the door shut. I felt like a total and complete idiot, especially being a seasoned flyer.

Wanna bet what the look was on the faces of those PAX that had to have their bags checked? Leson learned.

FAA does not permit the use of Duct Tape for airplane repairs. It was probably a variety of Speed Tape. (http://www.glenfieldassociates.com/aerospace.html#foil) They look similar.

No bowing necessary. I got a lesson from a WN mechanic that was repairing an armrest on the aisle seat in my row. I laughingly said something about duct tape and was told in no uncertain terms that this was NOT duct tape but was a special tape approved be the FAA with a very special price. He told me they could be fined for using unapproved tape for even an armrest repair.

May have been feeding me a line, but I was convinced.

Why do you try to shut the door, anyway? I always laugh at these people who make 10-12 attempts to shut the overhead bin door, when it obviously won't close. Sometimes you need to lift up the latch to get it to shut. Just leave it open, sit down, and I'm sure the FA will get it before you takeoff. :)

This. I never shut the door. It is the FA's job to walk down the aisle and slam every door waking me from my sleep so that I can be awake while I ignore the announcements.

Yes, the FA may have overreacted. However, if the door is broken in the process, then it is going to cause a delay while the bags are taken out of the bin and gate-checked and taping the bin shut as well as a maintenance signoff by the cockpit crew.

It would not write in this case. The passenger should not have attempted to slam the door multiple times, if the bags didn't fit!

Here's a novel idea.

Why not have a quiet word with the FA at the appropriate time. Mention the fact that she came across as being rude. Not come onto a forum and name her.

Because if it doesn't fit, by the time the FA shuts it there might not be any more room and the bag gets checked. If I'm not sure it will fit I try to close the bin to make sure. Then, if it doesn't fit I turn it sideways. Or walk farther back to find an open bin that it will fit sideways.

Their is no excuse for being rude if that is in fact how she handled it. As an FA I cannot tell you how many times I have polietly said to a pax "the front door is closed, you're powering down , right?" They obviously were not since the phone was at their ear, but as I walk away I hear them tell the person on the other end "I gotta go the flight attendant just yelled at me".

Oh yeah, great idea. Rather than come on here with it, you should run down to the patent office.
