Online Travel Booking and Bidding Agencies - Why does Kayak limit multi-city destination itineraries to 6 travel days?

I'm not even sure I worded my thread title question correctly but that's OT because FT will set me straight with regards to terminology.
Anyhoo, when I go to Kayak to perform a multi-city flight search, it only allows a maximum of six flights. Is there a reason for this? Are there other OTA search engines that allow for more?

Neither Matrix nor certain big OTAs like Orbitz or Expedia permit more than 6 fare components with different dates. Which OTAs permit to book more than 6 fare components?

Interesting. Is there a reason for this limitation or is six just a number that the programmers picked out of the air?
My reason for asking is that I am planning an epic trip for next year and if I can get it one ticket then that would be great.

Sounds like you mean 6 flight segments not 6 travel days but that's OK :)
Many reservation systems won't price more than 8 segments, though as was stated above, some OTA's can't handle more than 6. Just depends on each system.

I suppose that makes sense.
Finding an OTA that can handle eight (and let me search for eight) would be perfect. Anyone know of one?

Prices in AUD and allowed me to add up to 25 flights before I gave up on testing what the limit was. I don't know how well the system works with 25 flight requests though
It prices using Sabre and I have ticketed a couple of itineraries with them - they are a retail TA based on the Gold Coast in Queensland and they do add a $AU19 ticketing fee. I was able to book a specific itinerary that I couldn't get to price out elsewhere (only 6 segments but mixed class which this OTA also permits)

Prices look to be significantly more than Kayak but I did notice the "save 30% by getting travel insurance" blurb.
