Is this booking on 9W, EK, or another 3rd airline?

Yeah, it can be changed any time before departure...

If your profile is up to date, you might want to wait until you arrive at the gate to change the number so that you can take advantage of pre-boarding 9W*G perks.

I doubt you'll still get priority baggage tagging and lounge access with your EK number.

Perhaps you can wait till the check-in agent tags your bags and fills out your lounge card before requesting a chance in FF number :P

i agree it may be a good idea for the op to wait till check-in to make the change but it won't have an impact on the benefits....the op will get priority bag tagging & lounge access by virtue of being a 9w gold member....it has nothing to do with the ff number in the reservation....

i used to have status with united....when i stopped flying regularly with them, i started crediting my random united flights to 9w....i always had my 9w number on the reservation but showing the check-in agent my card always got me my benefits....

Right, basically you were using your UA number in the FQTS (status) field and the 9W number in the FQTV (accrual) field.

This is the best route to go when you have status, but you want to credit miles to a different program.

Not only, the change is possible, but I would actually recommend changing at least once your FF program following this anecdote:

I had originally stated my Flying Blue card on reservation of a 9W trip, and later changed to JetPrivilege as the fare class didn't earn any FB points. I was actually credited on both cards, with full C-class miles on Flying Blue for a segment where I was gate-upgraded. Nice :D

Sometimes the JetChildren at the counter say they have credited the flights to UA when they never do! More lies and deceit...

The fields are definitely there in the system. Whether the check-in agent knows how to use it is a totally different question of course :)
