All Nippon Airways Mileage Club - Legroom on a ANA USA to Tokyo Flight
I'm about 6ft 4" and I would like to try the SEA-NRT (in oct) or SJC to NRT flights in coach. I have only flown ANA in C but never in Y and I'm concerned about the legroom.
Is it doable if I can't get an exit row seat. I'm Star Gold (UA 1K) in the *A program. Thanks

I've only tried the fixed back seats on the new 767's... But that was an experience I hope never to live through again. Worst seats I've ever tried. No legroom, no real sense of seat recline and way to hard padding on the back.
I'm 6"2 by the way.

Yikes! That's all I need to hear. It's one thing to bear it through a 4 hour flight but a 16+ hour flight? No way.
Thanks.

I hate to say it, but that's where UA has the advantage just because they offer E+. Saving grace if I fly in Y, exit seats even better. Mrs. EX and I would love to be on NH all the time but the seat pitch simply prohibits this. I am 6'4" myself.

Are these seats being installed on the international B787s?

Seat pitched in Y on IOJ-outfitted aircraft is 34"; on non-IOJ aircraft it is 31".

Yes -- the Fixed Back Shell seats are the standard Y seats on any IOJ-outfitted aircraft.

How is the seat width on the new 777 interiors? Seat Guru says 16.5" and I wonder if that's accurate. Considering JFK-NRT or IAD-NRT, but not if the seats are that narrow. Thanks!

I'm tall but not slender, and I found the Y seats on NH to be adequate. The 34" seat pitch, about the best you can expect for Y, unless you take UA's E+, seemed fine.

Just flew NRT-LAX in C, so can't speak from personal experience re: Y. But when I walked around the plane to stretch my legs, the folks in Y looked extremely miserable and those hard-back seats did not look very comfy.
