Hi - I'm a newbie. I've opened a couple of cards this year and wondering when the right time is for my husband to open them. I want him to open the US Airways card and I want to spread out the exp. date on our companion certs a bit. Anyway, at this point I'm wondering if the CC companies sweeten the pot closer to the Holidays, or specifically around Black Friday. If so, I'll wait. Are there other earning promos around this time typically that I should be getting ready for? I know about the US Airways Grand Slam promotion (assuming they'll do it for 2012) but wondering what else I should know.
Thanks!!

First of all, welcome to Flyertalk! I wouldn't say credit card companies target Black Friday for credit card deals, although the BA Visa 100k offer initially came out around that time in 2009 I believe. In general, it helps to keep your eyes peeled for new offers year-round. Also, there are plenty of great offers available currently so have a look around and see what works best for you.

My experience lately has been that I have applied for the most cards between Feb-June over the past several years, whether due to good limited time offers or just an itchy trigger finger after no credit card applications for a while. :)

Amazing memory :). Flyertalk discussion began on Monday 9 November and applications were accepted later in the week.

For the last few years amex has had small bussines saturday, on the day after black friday. you need to already have the amex card and register it, and you would get 25 back if you spent at least 25 at a small bussines.

Wish it were a case of an amazing memory! I happened to have my credit card spreadsheet open at the time.

There were some pretty fun Black Friday deals through the UR portal last year, and of course Small Biz Saturday with all your Amex cards was a good time. For both of those you would have already needed to have the cards ahead of time.

+1, I already have 10. It is awesome for the Twitter deals as well!

Ha ha indeed. Of course, I'm fairly sure that is what triggered FR for many folks last year, but it's all a trade-off for free stuff! ;)

ooo yeah forgot about the BB deal through Ultimate Rewards. Pracitcally 25% off their entire site.

You gotta get an AMEX or two. They run those small bus. promos all year, too.

So that would be a "EXCEL-lent" memory then?
