Right they are - if you need only a few thousand, it may be worth it. Otherwise makes absolutely no sense.

I took advantage of the "offer" a couple of months ago. Needed a few thousand points. The "offer" has been around for some time now.

At 2,45 cents (buy 40000) per point it still makes sense for some redeemptions:
- West-Norway to North-Norway (e.g. BGO-TOS)
- E to E+ upgrades on long haul
- OSL-LYR
all at 10 000 points.

Faroe Islands is also a good redeemption I've been told.

How to get there using SAS points?

As far as I know the only airline flying to the Faroe Islands is Atlantic Airways. You'd have to call to book though I believe

I think buying points is worth only if you intend to use them immediately and only in very small quantities. Usually there are other ways how to get them even cheaper (subscribing to a newspaper etc.). And with the new point system earlierly purchased or earned points really lost their value (at least for me, since I was looking at domestic flights).

Since the standard prices to buy extra points are outrageously expensive, 40% off doesn't impress me much. I wouldn't pay for points even if there was a 90% discount. Better to look for cheap flight tickets instead.

As an example, an award flight that costs 40 000 EB points + taxes and fees can normally easily be found as a regular ticket for around 1000 SEK + taxes and fees.
