Reading my CIBC Visa Infinite car rental Collision/Loss Damage Insurance info, it sounds like I have to book the entire rental on my card for the coverage to be valid. Is the coverage valid if I book thru Hotwire?

RevJim Aug 21, 12, 7:36 am I don't know specifically about the CIBC Infinite card, but usually credit cards simply mean that you have to PAY for the entire rental on their credit card. If you were allowed to get the insurance with a partial payment, you might charge $1 of the rental to your Visa card and then put the remaining amount on some other payment method. So you can probably book with Hotwire as long as you pay the whole thing on that one card. sdsearch Aug 23, 12, 2:02 pm Reading my CIBC Visa Infinite car rental Collision/Loss Damage Insurance info, it sounds like I have to book the entire rental on my card for the coverage to be valid. Is the coverage valid if I book thru Hotwire? It depends what you mean by "book thru Hotwire". If you book the car rental alone in a way that it's billed to the rental company, as being for that specific rental, that should be fine. If you book the car rental as part of a package, that's no good, because then you're paying the rental company directly, the company that puts together the package takes your package payment and they pay the rental car company (and whatever else is including in the package) themselves. And if you book the car rental by buying "certificates", even if they're from the rental car company, and then redeeming those certificates, that's no good, because you again didn't pay for the car rental itself directly and in full with the credit card that has the coverage. So it's not a quesiton of where you book as much as exactly how you book and exactly how the billing works. Jay71 Aug 23, 12, 4:11 pm Thanks for the feedback and guidance. Might be a moot point for me at this point because booking directly with the companies seems a bit cheaper than Hotwire at the moment. |
