Is this fee one time or annually
Last year joined the gold club as no fee promotion is going
and now I'm a five star gold.

And Do I need to pay anything to renew the membership?

There is no fee for 5 star. The only fee exists if you want Gold but don't make the minimum rental number per year (3?).

There is supposedly a fee to renew gold if you don't rent some number of times.

I have heard the number of times has been said to be three, or four, or six, depending on who you are talking to.

There have been others who have posted that they have not rented from Hertz in years and are still gold.

So like most other things, Your Mileage May Vary

But no, if you rent with them there is no charge to keep gold year to year.

I've been Gold for years, and sometimes don't rent at all for a year - never get a charge coming up from Hertz. I guess it depends which free Gold promo was used when signing up?

Have you read T&Cs?
As of September 4, 2007, the Program membership fee is US$60 for one year, which fee may be waived by Hertz... your membership will expire on the expiration date specified on Your Hertz #1 Club Gold Card, or in the absence of such expiration date after 12 months from submission to You of such card, unless, in either case, Your membership is renewed or extended for an additional period of 12 months upon payment by You of any membership renewal fee notified to You by Hertz. Hertz reserves the right not to renew Your membership and will not be obliged to provide any explanation for not doing so.
So, there's no right and wrong answer in this case and it can be one or another way...depends on Hertz. But there's also a way to obtain refund if hertz bills you for gold membership and reserves the membership fee from your credit card.

Welcome to the forum!

Well then I'm the exception :P

I've never been charged since 09 and Gold has never expired.

Again I'm not sure why, and as cordelli stated - it's a bit hit and miss and YMMV.

I believe one of the benefits of some FF programs (US Air Gold for instance) is that you get Hertz Gold as well. Another possibility is that you may have it linked with a corporate discount code that grants you Gold status as well. I work for Oracle and their corporate discount gives me Gold status without a fee to me personally.

From what I have seen here over the years, I think it is more the exception if you're actually charged for renewal. Most people are not charged. I don't have any other status that would get me free gold, nor did I really have any when I first signed up. But I haven't ever had to pay. I do always rent at least a few times a year though, and these days at least 7 or 8. In fact I rented 7 or 8 last year and they still left me at 5* status even though you're supposed to need 10 rentals or a lot more $$ than I spent.

Hertz is known to frequently ignore their own Terms and Conditions.
