No tax payable on rewards nights - not sure whether they may try to charge the resort fee, though, as I haven't stopped here on points

They will probably charge the resort fee plus tax ($22.40/nt).

They will.
I would also encourage checking pl/hw as normally you can get it for <150 even on weekends.

It's 12% of $20 resort fee for the tax...resort fee is not waived for rewards.

Notwithstanding the boilerplate language on the reservation confirmation, the 12% tax is the Clark County Combined Transient Lodging tax. According to Section 4.08.050(e) of the Clark County municipal code, there is an exemption from tax when the room is complimentary:

No combined transient lodging tax shall be imposed under the provisions of this chapter upon:
.....

(e) Complimentary rooms wherein there is no rent paid to the operator in conjunction with the occupancy.

(Ord. 3656 § 13, 2008: Ord. 2303 § 2 (part), 1999)

V/P don't charge resort fee/tax on resort fee for comped rooms.
But does a reward night qualify as complimentary?
It's not free, you are paying for it with points.

They did on a recent chase free night redemption.
$22.40 resort fee + tax.

Again i wouldn't waste 50K unless PL bids fail.

+1, at least unless you are absolutely drowning in points. At a realistic cost of $350 for those 50K points (okay, $315 if you have the CC), can't you find a lower rate even through normal booking channels?

With comped I meant comped by Club Grazie

I recently took advantage of a reward night at the special 25k promo rate - but even then it was a close call as to whether it was worth it. As it was a weekend night and a little more expensive I bit the bullet in the end and spent the points.

And I can confirm that they did charge me the resort fee, plus the tax on it.

Or unless you booked for new year's eve -- like me!
