US Airways Dividend Miles - Lounge access on Z fare?

View Full Version : Lounge access on Z fare?

This may sound like a stupid (or ignorant) question but .... if one had purchased a full fare Z (Envoy TATL) ticket one then has access to US Airways Clubs, yes?

I ask this because so many things have changed over the past year, so many 'perks' have either been taken away or reworked, I don't want to assume anything. :p

I searched the US Air website and did not find anything specific to full fare 'Z' or 'A' tickets and their benefits.

Any business or first class ticket will give you lounge access.

Sometimes those "P" fares can be weird though.

I think I've been on every variation of an Envoy ticket (even including a $400 eSaver that I upgraded using CP certs) and I've never had an issue getting into the lounges. I think all that matters is that you are sitting in an envoy seat.

Though, I believe that regardless of what envoy fare you paid, an envoy ticket does not get you into any club once you make it to the US. For example, if your envoy TATL flight connects in PHL, even if you are connecting onward in F, your ticket doesn't get you in the lounge.

Now that's interesting. I have been to that lounge on a 'Club pass'. It's not bad and I know they have a separate lounge for First Class ticket holders. I'd have assumed that having paid full fare for TATL (there is no first class when flying Europe to US, only Envoy) that ticket would get a person in to the FC lounge.

I am flying through CLT "hin und zurück" (my preference)

What lounge are you referring to?? There is no US Airways lounge that has a "first class" section.

Does just a First Class ticket get you access to US Airways Club?

When in PHL several years ago there were two sides to the lounge ... one side was exclusively for FC Pax as I remember. Perhaps it is no longer there?

No- a first class ticket does not get you into the Club.

Envoy (TATL) tickets will get you into the club

Correct- The PHL A club is now a full US Airways Club and no longer Envoy only.

You won't get you into any US or UA lounge, unless you have other means of access (membership card, non-US *G card). LH is known to admit travelers with domestic F tickets to their Senator Lounges if they aren't too busy.

It does:

For the OP, if you are an Envoy passenger coming off a Europe to PHL flight connecting on US to another US domestic destination you will have access to the US Clubs in PHL. Be persistent and keep your same-day Envoy boarding pass.

I am gratified to know this, although I try to route myself through another airport (usually CLT) to avoid PHL. I have had bad experiences within PHL ... mostly time crunches. Clearing customs then waiting for bags, then rechecking bags which always takes a very long time. Lay-over times are never enough to make a comfortable connecting flight when coming in from FRA.

I will be visiting the CLT Club Lounge this trip.

Interesting. That seems to be inconsistent with what people on here have said. Maybe most of the comments were when it was still an Envoy-only lounge. Has anyone here used an Envoy ticket to get into a US lounge one they've made it to the United States?

Yes, I just did this. ZHR-PHL and then PHL-BOS. I used the boarding pass to get into the lounge in A in PHL, they even gave me the premium drink coupons.

In two weeks, I'll be arriving at FRA from BKK in TG First Suites, spending the night at the Sheraton, and then departing FRA for IAD from the LH FC Terminal.

Not to dispute you, IcanflyUSAirways ... we all have our stories but as long as I have been connecting in CLT (over ten years now) it has been infinitely easier in CLT then in PHL. But as I said, we all have our stories..... ;)

Do you get these coupons upon check-in at the lounge desk or on board your flight?

I have heard this from many PAX and there is a thread dedicated (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/miles-more-lufthansa-austrian-swiss-other-partners/982019-beginners-guide-connecting-fra-fra-connection-thread.html) to connecting through FRA with many good tips to avoid problems.

FRA is my origination and destination port so I don't have any difficulties traversing the many arms of this airport and rather like its many facets.

My understanding is that if you arrive in a *A flight in first/business and are connecting to US, you do not get access to the club (club privileges are for departing passengers). However, if you're on US metal in Envoy or a *G, you do.

At the check in desk. You only need them for premium drinks, the cheap beer and wine is available to everyone for free.

But some drinks I'd like to 'call' (say a premium vodka or rum) but for that one must pay. Having a coupon would be valuable then.

Good question; at the staralliance (http://www.starallianceemployees.com/fileadmin/reference_guide/rg_lounge_access.1.html) website sited in this thread it does say,

"Customer must be departing from the local airport in International Business Class;"

So that begs the question, can one enter a lounge after one has arrived at one's destination? (if one needed a little time to 'clean up' for say a business meeting) I would then assume not, if the Star Alliance site makes mention only of departing PAX.

I just find FRA to be basically horrible (UNLESS LH F Terminal is part of the equation). The funny thing is that as BAD as FRA is, MUN is fantastic!

Since I never connect in FRA but only depart or arrive there, I am curious as to what it is about FRA that is so BAD?
I personally do not like PHL where I HAVE had to connect. Traversing that lengthy airport to try to make a connection after having to clear customs and then recheck bags then security and then run like Heck to get to my connecting flight... (even with a 90 minute time window) is way to stressful.

What gives FRA a bad rep?

What gives FRA a bad rep?

FRA isn't the easiest place for connections. Arriving internationally and getting from one terminal to the next can be a pain. It's not as awful as CDG (!!!) but when compared to ZRH or MUC it looses hands down.

Is it the long walks or perhaps poor signage that give it this bad reputation?

It's the poor signage that makes a long walk longer when you need to backtrack/turn around/re-trace your steps. ;)

I know we are digressing from the OP but I find this interesting as a discussion.

This is one of the reasons I find this forum so marvelous, I get information that allows me to 'pick the minds' of more experienced travelers.

MIA is one of those airports that suffers from VERY POOR signage. I have a great deal of trouble getting from J terminal to E terminal so I can get to the train.

Has anyone ever seen maps stationed in various locations within FRA? I don't believe I have ever seen that and perhaps that is a suggestion for FRAport and other airports to consider.

Frankly, it's not that I hate FRA airport so much it is just that I love connecting in MUC or ZRH so much more. MUC and ZRH are both easy airports to navigate and the Star Gold lounges are nice and almost always less crowded than in FRA (better lounges at MUC than ZRH IMO). MUC is my first choice if connecting in Europe.

FRA is fine and I won't go out of my way to avoid it the way I avoid CDG (unless it is my destination). That said, if flying LH First ex-Europe, FRA moves right to the top of the list for the wonderful FC Terminal.
