Yes, I got one also.

I still have 3 which will expire on 1 September and I have not qualified Platinum but the bonus one has an expiry of 15 August 2013, so I hope it sticks.

I'm assuming it is just like the normal platinum certificates, with the same T&C's. There's nothing really to indicate anything else.

Now to book a Flexi - almost did yesterday (when booking MEL/BNE), but glad I didn't - J was full on my flight :o

Using the comp upgrades is definitely a 'call and check availability' job before pulling the trigger on the flexi booking, then having the upgrade processed then and there on the phone.

We have a number these expiring in a month or so. Yawn. Wast of a 60c stamp to us, unless they get savvy and make them usable space available at gate as US carriers do for top Elites.

I wish instead of these, they'd bring back any time Lounge Access for Plats that they stupidly removed this month, with ZERO notice to Plats.

They are joining Qantas in the race to the bottom. NOT doing the savvy thing, and taking the initiative in the domestic market.

They should be ENHANCING their Elite Benefits to take advantage of Qantas horrific losses announced today.

The Leprechaun will ruin Qantas as he has zero clue, that has been plainly evident since Day #1 - Virgin should be ramping up their appeal RIGHT NOW.

As no matter how many jumped ship last year a ton more will before the end of 2013 if Virgin benefits look better.

NOW is the time to go for the jugular and steal even more Qantas Plats and making these anytime use at gate will appeal to many.

Qantas reported it had slumped to a $245 million full-year loss, its first since Australia’s largest airline was fully privatised 17 years ago.

The carrier's loss was caused by high fuel prices, intense competition and industrial disputes.

The statutory loss for the year to June compares with a $250 million profit a year earlier. The market had expected Qantas to post a net loss of $224 million for the year.

Is this confirmed upgrade redeemable for a family member (if the status member isn't travelling)?

Reading the T&Cs (http://www.velocityrewards.com.au/content/ProgramBenefits/TermsConditions/index.htm#33) for the standard Platinum upgrades it appears not:

13.17 Platinum Members may choose to redeem a Complimentary Fare Upgrades for a guest who is travelling with them.

But keen to understand if anyone has had experience with this?

I personally don't use mine as I can through AMEX buy a J ticket for the same price as a flexi ticket. I am happy that I can call up AMEX and get a confirmed booking in J at a flexi price but with J status credits and it doesn't bother me that mine go to waste.

is this a negotiated corporate rate or one available to all Cent/Plat AMEX members?

I've heard about such AMEX cards. I want one! Clearly, not all AMEXs are created equal...

I can confirm Cent/Plat cards get a very 'competitive' rate on DJ fares...

I assume the access is for charge card holders, not just credit card holders? (I didn''t know of this perk which could just tip the justification to spend the extra annual fee)

I don't know, I don't hold an AMEX credit card.

I got an invitation letter too - "a small token - pay a flex ticket then free upgrade"... it's no use as I dont want to pay extra for that airfare to any cities.

Hi nonce, could you tell us exactly which Amex Plat card offers this benefit?
