Does anyone have any info on how the renovation of the Wing is going? All I can find is that the First Class section will reopen in the 4th quarter of 2012.

Do you fly through HKIA often? If not, and depending on where you're flying to, I recommend checking out the new J side of the Wing. IMO it's superior to the old F Wing....lots of food (although not as formal as the old Haven), and very airy. Lots of different types of seating areas. There is a small separate F section but it's nothing to write home about. Overall though the lounge is great, especially if it's not crowded. Or check out The Cabin. Despite them not being formal F lounges, I think they both have a better vibe than The Pier F.
If you're flying to the USA, chances are high you'll be leaving from Gates 3, 4 or 21, all of which are close to The Wing and The Cabin.

Will I be able to access the First Class Lounge (The Wing) in HKG when I land?
Or would I need a 1st class departing ticket?

If you are in transit and connecting to another flight, as long as you are arriving in First Class you can access the First Class lounge (at the moment The Pier only) by showing your inward boarding pass.
If you are not in transit and ending your journey in Hong Kong, you can access The Arrivals Lounge which is landside. You will not have access to any of the airside lounges in this case.

Hello all
I was in the F section on Sunday (as the revamped J area which yes, is nice, was super crowded) and got to thinking...
I was a huge fan of the Haven at the Wing and I always get happy if my departing gate is closer to the Pier so I can use the F lounge there. What would CX have done with all of the wonderful (Hans Wagner I think) chairs and tables from the Wing? Just thrown them out? or are they getting dusty in a warehouse somewhere? It would be criminal (even if they were a bit worn towards the end) if they were just thrown out...

I think transitting to a CX / KA FLT is needed in this case - not any FLT.

You are cordially invited to attend a media briefing on 6 February 2013 at which Cathay Pacific will give an exclusive preview of the redesigned First Class lounge of The Wing, before it reopens for passengers use later that evening.
The media briefing kicks off at noon, followed by lounge tour and lunch. There's no more specific time beyond "later that evening" on when the lounge will opens its door to the public.

IRC, only MPC GO/DM can guest 1/2 (respectively) into the lounge. Not sure about F passengers.....
The new wing looks great! Will have to try it out next month ^ Only small thing I'm not a fan of is the Haven.. The seating just looks a bit cheap like the seating you'd find in a take-out place.. not like the seating you would find in a high end restaurant. I think the restaurants at FCT, BA FCL, SQ TPR and even the TG FCL look classier and more luxurious.

OW Sapphire: +1 guest to J lounge
OW Emerald: +1 guest to J or F lounge

Sitting in the lounge restaurant right now waiting for my a la carte food off the menu.
Will be spending 4 hours here.
Spent 45mins in the showers.
Had a nice shower, shave and change of clothes after a midnight flight into HK for transit to Sydney.
Showers are same design as Swire hotels. Having stayed in EAST hotel in HK it is very similar with small differences.
Some issues minor and I'm nitpicking... there's no rubbish bin other than the one below toilet paper which is not very convenient; there wasn't a tissue box in my shower; the hand held shower really sucks and there's no water pressure; the hot water intermittently hot than cold and hot again with no adjustment. Square basins are a bad idea, as experienced in EAST the corners can never be cleaned properly and suffers badly with age. Hope they keep everything clean.
Restaurant.
Buffet was always empty and seems like they can't keep up with the food offering. Restaurant is only at approx 50% capacity as well. Don't know how it will cope at 100%.
The buffet does have a good selection when there is food. New food comes people rush to it.
The a la carte menu had a good selection beef, chicken, noodles etc.
After ordering was told it takes 20mins, only took 15minutes and I ate some salad while waiting.
Serving size seems more of a tasting menu then full course. Nice selection of desserts.
Very busy lounge and I still prefer the QF Syd First lounge because of better selection of food and much more open space, although probably half as many passengers in the QF lounges.

Sorry they took away the menu before I had a chance to take a photo and didn't bother to ask for it back.
Will post a photo of the beef I got when I get a chance.
Other people looked at me when I got served the dish because most people didn't know of the special menu :)
So I had another 2 hours to spare and used up a Cabanna and loved it.
Had a long bath reading another chapter of my book.
The tub is massive, around 6feet!
Can fit at least 3 people :)
Again hot water from the showers were lacking, but the tub hot water was perfect although I didn't need to use cold water too much.
I left a comment when the attendant asked me as I left.
The air conditioning in the Cabanas are much better than the showers.
Looking at the food menu and the drinks menu it seems Peninsula has plastered themselves on bottom of both menu.
Time for my fight...

The tub is massive, around 6feet!
Can fit at least 3 people :)
LOL ... three would be a bit too much. :p

When in the tub it is easy to hit the water stoppage and drain the water in error. Water splash at least 2 feet into the hardwood floor.

The revamped F lounge is a joke. I can't believe they took almost a year to produce this, which is seriously unimpressive as a flagship F lounge. I thought the J lounge renovation, on the other hand, was an impressive upgrade. The F renovation is totally and completely underwhelming.
The only nice thing to be said is the Haven looks like it has more seats. Good for breakfast time.
Specifics:
The library was so much better than than champagne bar, as far as wasted space goes.
The old design scheme looked far more elegant. Haven in all black and white feels horribly sterile. I don't know the proper design term, but it feels like CX chased a fleeting design fad, rather than gong for something that will still look current and nice in 5 years.
Didn't check the cabanas; but based on the pics they seem to be the nicest part of the new lounge. I think most HK-based pax don't care about lounging in a glorified bathroom for a few hours.
They are right now playing Muzak in the lounge. I don't recall that from before. What a terrible idea!
Food seemed about the same as before in terms of # of choices and food quality. The a la carte menu a nice addition. However, the staff are pretty clear in body and facial language that you may as well have asked them for their first born as asking for a menu. Strange. I wonder why.
Silly that there is 0 food throughout the rest of the lounge other than the Haven. Grab and go options are appreciated, like in the Pier or in the J lounges.
Signing off, to head over to the noodle bar in J...

Visited for the first time on Thursday :
Pros:
- service was proactive, offered drinks as soon as seated in the main line, escorted from the entrance to the haven and very attentive during dinner
-cabanas are amazing, bigger than my living room at home! The bath is huge for me at 6 foot ( is is usual they will allow two people in the same room? )
- direct entry from immigration exit is perfect for convenience
- tenderloin from al LA carte menu was amazing with delicate flavors
- seats very comfy in the lounge area
- interiors felt stylish and sufficiently luxe for F
Cons:
- one bathroom attendant tried to tell me the cabanas were full the other let me in five mins later
- a couple 'people' decided to take over the bar, strewing their coats and bags everywhere, gulping multiple drinks and being generally annoying difficult for CX to manage but did spoil the ambience I think
- no grab n go water bottles... Had to go back to j lounge
I agree the design isn't quite as wow as it could be but think they have had to balance this with space maximisation. I will still put the QF F syd lounge ahead for now given they will serve food anywhere to you, offer spa treatments and have a great design aesthetic.

Here's some pics from my visit - I have to say using QF F Lounge in SYD as the benchmark I think it stacks up well (and even comes out a little ahead with the cabanas)

Re: the Water bottles, you are in the F lounge, so just ask the attendants for either evian or bonaqua water and it will arrive for you. For that matter any drink or food.
Everyone must remember that F is a cut above J, and therefore you may ask the attendants to assit you as you like E.g. If you wish to eat outside the Haven, just ask someone to bring your ordered meal for you to your seat.

Never been into the lounge, but looking at all these photos....something about the cabana bed still bothers me. Was it really that necessary to have the bed right next to the bath tub...so closed? Add in the sharp cutoff's of the bath tub design....an accident or two is bound to happen in the future.
I'm not an interior designer....but could they really not have positioned the day bed in a different part of the room??

They usually ask me first. "Sir, would you like some drinks?!" :D

I see what you mean but there is plenty of space between the bed and the bath tub - it isn't close at all and the edges were not sharp from memory.
