Does anybody know if the luggage compartment on Etihad Airways maintains a similar temp like the cabin or is it simply left without any kind of HVAC thus dropping to a very low temperature in the high skies?

Normally it gets very cold in all holds during the flight, except for when there are living animals (or other exceptional cargo) on board.

How cold do you think it gets? At 30,000 feet, isn't it like -30F

I have no idea how cold it gets, but it's certainly freezing. (or close to freezing point) It also depends on the aircraft they are using. Some planes tend to have a some warmer sections of the holds. But I'm not expert on it, so don't shoot me on this one.
Are you planning on taking some specials things with you, or is there any other reason you are curious about this?

Some cooked food for a relative which may spoil in a heated room but will stay perfect in <45F ;)

You also have the option to pack it in dry ice if you want to be really sure. But as for the limits of dry ice, you need to contact the airline. Also, not all kinds of foods can be transported, so make sure you know the custom rules for that...

I hope you're not travelling to Australia because you will be sent straight to the gallows on arrival for bringing in any food or plants:D

U.S. definitely is, cooked or not cooked. I am pretty sure Canada is too.

TOTALLY depends what it actually is here....

Declare it all.... you'll be asked what you have and - in many cases - sent on your way rejoicing...

Some things though are simply NOT allowed in... I think dairy is a big no no....
