Credit Card Programs - which CC gives the most points for Walmat/Target shopping?

There are several CC that tout upto 5% (with one giving 6%) on grocery shopping. But I see exclusions of "superstores, discount stores " etc. All those things are confusing as they don't tell you if you get bonus points for shopping at Walmart etc - which most of us do.
Can someone give details on whats the scoop? Are policies different for each bank? Eg- does blue cash preferred give 6% at Walmart?
All in all I'd like to know what cc should I be using at those places?

You can check evrewards.com.
Almost all of the CCs recognize walmart and target as discount store, but I heard some of the walmart superstores are classified as grocery store.
Target has its own CC which I guess pays 5% cash back at their stores.
In addition to getting 5% cash back in stores, you also get 5% cash back online and free shipping.

I will second the Target card, obviously only for Target purchases. 5% Discount on the spot every time. Same with online orders plus free shipping.

Target is listed as a grocery store while Walmart is listed as a department store with citi and chase with my experience. There are several "back to school" citi promos going on now that include department stores so this will have to be tested. But if you have a cc that gives 5x points on grocery shopping go to target.

What is Walmat? Is that a subsidiary of Walmart in the Boston area? :D

Blue Cash Preferred does NOT give 6% cash back at Walmart nor at Target. It only gives 1%. I use my Priceline VISA for 2% cash back at those and all stores.

Walmart qualified for 5% on the Apr. to June grocery categories on Chase Freedom.
+1 for the Target credit card when making purchases at Target. 5% immediate discount at checkout. Target also has a pharmacy rewards program where every 5th prescription refill earns you a 5% discount shopping day which combined with a Target credit will net you 10% off. And Target will donate up to 1% of your CC purchases to a K-12 school of your choice.

I'm not sure about Target, but I know the Amex Zync gets double points at WalMart. Amex Zync, annual fee of $25, is customizable with "pack" add-ons which increase the points earnings. One of them is the Green Pack which grants double points on "Green" purchases, and apparently WalMart is a green merchant (I know, huh). Time for some limitations though, all packs only grant double points on up to $5000 worth of purchases, and the Zync card by itself cannot transfer points to frequent flyer programs due it using Membership Rewards Express instead of Membership Rewards. But if you have any full fledged Membership Rewards cards and you link the Zync to your existing account (or vice versa, start with a Zync then link a full fledged MR card) then all points become transferable.
