Yep, apparently a coder and tech entrepreneur (myself) can't figure out how to make a signature appear when he posts on the forums here.

Instructions please?

You can set up a signature in your profile. There might be a quicker way to do this, but when I click on "My Flyertalk", it brings up a control panel on the left side which has such things as your profile, networking, settings & options, private messages, and miscellaneous. Under Settings & Options is Edit Signature. You'd create a signature there & save it. There's also a bunch of permissions you can turn on/off.

Also, as I type this I see under the message, show your signature is automatically checked. I'm not sure if that's because I did that when I set up my signature & so it automatically defaults to it or if it's set to automatically show my signature when I'm replying unless I unclick it at the message level.

Hope this helps, and maybe someone else can chime in.

Cheers.

Don't blame yourself for not being able to see it. I think the criteria is 90 posts and 90 days on FT. When you get there, the software permission should update shortly thereafter, allowing you to add a signature.

sandiego1k, I was just coming back to post that. I didn't know about the 90/90 when I posted my original reply, but I saw this thread on the topic on page 2 of this forum where it mentioned the 90/90.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/technical-issues/1074228-new-member-unable-create-signature-merged.html

But I think my instructions on how to do it when the OP does get his last 18 posts/hits 90 are the way to do it.

BTW - here's some info re: signatures.

We do not wish to restrict your right to display personal views, ideology, etc. but do ask that you remain respectful of others in your signature lines.

Signatures, any links they contain and the content of the linked site are subject to the FlyerTalk content standards concerning decency, obscenity, the furthering of illegal activities and offensive language. As with any postings on FT, personal attacks are never permitted. Note that this list is not exhaustive and that the ultimate decision on the permissibility of a signature rests with the administrators.

To be eligible to display a signature with each post, you must be a member of FlyerTalk for at least 90 days and have contributed 90 posts to the community. "Post padding" or other methods to artificially inflate a post count in order to add a signature are a violation of the ToS and will result in disciplinary action.

The following rules also apply to signatures:

•Use the normal posting font size.
•Limit your signature to two lines.
•Text should comply with our regular posting rules. No all-caps, no alternating caps, etc.
•Do not make your signature too long or obtrusive through overly creative use of punctuation, color, etc.
•Avoid putting your username in your signature as it's already on the top of each of your posts.
•Do not post or embed external images in your signature.

Should you wish not to view signatures, you may shut them off. To do so, go to MyFlyerTalk and click on Edit Options on the left-hand side of the page. Scroll down to Thread Display Options and remove the check from the Show Signatures box.

Cheers.

I'm glad I found this thread. I also didn't know about the 90/90. Can that be added to the FAQ about signatures?

It's spelled out in the FlyerTalk Guidelines and Rules (http://www.flyertalk.com/help/rules.php):

Signatures (http://www.flyertalk.com/help/rules.php#q79)

Well I'm stumped. And I think I meet the 90/90 rule. ;)

I can see the signature when looking at my profile page, in the "About Me" section, but it doesn't appear at the foot of my posts.

In my "Control Panel" in "MyFlyerTalk", under "Edit Options/Thread Display Options" I've selected "Show Signatures".

What am I doing wrong?

Edited to add: Geez, as I preview this post I'm seeing the signature!

So the signature is only added to the NEW posts I make, and not to existing posts? Is that correct?

I think you've answered your own question. :)

Yes, your signature will only be attached to those posts that you make after you create your signature.
