Does anyone have any experience with Virgin America allowing one to bring on a car seat for an infant if one purchases a seat for her? This is specifically a Chicco KeyFit 30, which I think is FAA approved. Thanks

Thanks gooseman13 Aug 19, 12, 8:24 pm Yes, so long as you purchase the seat and the carseat is FAA approved you should not have a problem bringing it on. Mike_K Aug 19, 12, 9:59 pm Not a problem at all. Just needs to be FAA approved. Even if you don't buy a seat for her, if the flight isn't very full they often allow you to take it on. When we fly MCS we generally book seats A&C or D&F so we have the open center. To date, no one has sat in the center seat but if the flight is close to full they won't let us bring the seat. I'm not sure if it's up to the FA's discretion or what the actual policy is. We've been told different things on different occasions. One FA told us that if there's more than 50 open seats they'll let us bring it on but if there's less than 50 open seats we can't, regardless if anyone is sitting between us. silent129 Aug 19, 12, 10:01 pm Not a problem at all. Thanks for the suggestion. Are the loads on BOS-SFO on Thursday evenings pretty high usually? Mike_K Aug 19, 12, 10:15 pm No idea... My only route is ORD-LAX. I would think that would be a pretty light travel time though. phllax Aug 21, 12, 1:35 pm We did the same thing that Mike K suggested with a lap child - booked aisle and windows. When we called Virgin to add the lap child, they did a courtesy block of the middle seat and told us it would be the last seat on the plane they sell if needed. VX doesn't overbook. We lucked out in one direction, but lost the seat at the last minute coming back. They gladly checked our car seat. VX also still provides free car seat bags at the ticket counter. By the way, regardless of which seats you are assigned, the car seat has to go in the window seat due to egress issues. |
