Unless you found the 24th available off at my job for me, it doesn't matter to me whether the 24th is included or not, I have to be in BOS that day ;). I couldn't find anything in October or November, but the two December nights actually works out better, got 2 rooms, since it is only valid on the king bedroom.

Generally yes, a bigger car costs more, I parked in Manhattan last year but I have a sedan. Sunday parking is free on the street, so go get it early Sunday morning and bring it either out of the paid parking or in from the suburbs, if you'll be leaving on a Sunday.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/new-york-city/436401-lga-street-parking.html is also an option.

Yea, you may be better off parking somewhere across the river, and just taking a train into the city. Although, if you don't mind driving around a bit, parking downtown can be found easily on weekends, in the $30 range. My old parking garage on Allen St. comes to mind, just south of Grand Av., on the Lower East Side.

Q: What type of parking facilities are available at the hotel?
A: Central Parking is located at 150 West 38th St. between Broadway and 7th Avenue. The hotel offers valet parking at a fee of $57.00 + tax per day. Self parking is available at a fee of $29.00 + tax per day.
(For SUVs, an additional $5 fee applies).

This is still available, though I only see September weekend dates and the days before Christmas. Can't get anything in between. It is definitely still available September 8th-9th, that I've checked just now for certain. Move fast! Selecting more than 1 adult per room won't give the rate, so limit your search to 1 adult per room. You also need the check the box for the Promotions & Packages rate.

The Lanesborough deal being pulled in large part came even with letters in the mail, with delivery confirmation in some cases IIRC.

I am curious how much cheaper this rate is than the SPG hotel owners card rate for this property currently. I used to get out up here by some family friend who owns an SPG hotel property or two and it was an amazing deal back then from what I recall being told by the family.

Which would be about half of the nightly rate I was charged ($72.35 per night to me). I have two rooms for two nights, I started with one, then changed my reservation while the rate was still live to two rooms. I don't need to worry about booking any travel (I'd drive this and pay day of to park) so fortunately I don't have to decide anything about it.

Please don't call. Everybody got a confirmation, everybody's credit cards has/will be charged. In most cases, if they honor it (at this point, i'm pretty confident they will), they won't even contact you. Search for Hilton Austin Airport on here where the fee was $10 a night for a suite. I never heard a thing from Hilton about it, showed up and all was fine.

I'm not in on this deal so I have no stake but I would be cautious---

I once booked (by phone) what was a (unknown to me at the time) targeted code for the Venetian. The agent confirmed the phone, confirmed my hotel rewards number and booked the rate. I even got an official invoice, etc.

I got to the Venetian and while checking in, the desk clerk scampered away, whispered to his manager and came back to tell me that I did not qualify for the rate code, it was a mistake for them to book it since it was not generated by my hotel rewards number, etc. He basically told me that if I didn't want to pay the actual rate they were charging (ie double), I could leave.

We argued for about 20 minutes. It was Friday on Labor Day weekend so I didn't feel like pounding sand to find another hotel. I paid the higher rate ($40 v. $100) and they gave me a measly $50 in slot credit (which they give to everyone anyway).

The Venetian is an IHG hotel, not the Westin, but after that incident I've never counted on a mistake rate again. I would hate to go to NY and be told the same thing, to have to try to find an alternative in Times Square (ie $$$$).

Just a word of caution for anyone who might be on the fence.

izzik
Aug 23, 12, 8:50 pm
There's a difference between using a rate code that has restrictions on who can use it VS the situation here where the Westin priced a package rate extremely low that was open to anyone.

Dear Westin New York Guest:

Thank you for choosing The Westin New York at Times Square.

Our records indicate that you have booked the Renew Your Soul package for your upcoming stay.

Please be advised that this special offer is limited to single occupancy and is valid for the dates confirmed at time of booking. Any changes in dates, number of occupants or room type will result in a rate change and render the $60.00 rate null and void in accordance with hotel room modification policy.

For assistance or for more information, please contact us at mars.01380@westin.com or call 212-201-4649 and select option 5.

I got the email too..but I'm cautious about it. Based on the wording, I'm guessing that they're planning to actively police people who try to come in with a second person (which includes myself, as well as many others, I'm sure). I think getting a second person in the room is going to take some care.

I've never been in the lobby of the Westin before...but I can't really think of too many large chain hotels in Manhattan where the lobby is small enough for them to notice if you have a guest with you. Anyone familiar with the layout of this hotel know if the one guest rule would likely be strictly enforceable?

I'm happy my dates are in December, and it will be up to the September people to try anything first ;). I only plan to bring one person anyway so I will be all set. So happy I changed from one room to two while the rate was valid.

I'm sorry, but this to me is rather sad. Here we have a hotel, that quite graciously, has accepted and is honoring all the booked accommodation at the $60 website rate. No fuss whatsoever.

And now, some here are trying to figure out if they can scam the property in trying to smuggle an extra occupant in?

I'm sorry, but this to me is rather sad. Here we have a hotel, that quite graciously, has accepted and is honoring all the booked accommodation at the $60 website rate. No fuss whatsoever.

And now, some here are trying to figure out if they can scam the property in trying to smuggle an extra occupant in?

:(

I don't see it this way at all -- while I appreciate that they're honoring it, they're still using the occupancy thing as an 'out' to exclude people from using it as planned. Would they have any problem with adding an occupant if it WEREN'T a mistake rate? I'm sure they wouldn't -- it doesn't cost the hotel any extra. They're just exploiting the fine print here to limit the amount they have to pay out because of the mistake. Perfectly within their rights, but not what I'd call 'gracious'.

Okay. It is just that within minutes of getting the email, rather than being appreciative of how the hotel has reacted, instead there is further "can we squeeze some more something for nothing" scenario modeling happening.

And no, it doesn't offend me, it just disappoints me. JMHO, and it is not my call to tell you whether to keep it or delete.

The hotel is honoring exactly what was booked. There are plenty of hotels and rates, especially in packages with inclusions, where occupancy affects rates. And the comment that the hotel is "exploiting the fine print"!? Wow, just wow! :(

When this rate was available online, the rate displayed with 1 adult occupancy was quite different from the rate displayed with 2 adults occupancy. So yes, this too was rate dependent.

The hotel has honored EXACTLY what you chose to book. A room for 1 adult on this renew package for your chosen dates. They have FULLY honored their end of the bargain, and satisfied exactly what was offered on their website for booking.

Sure, that's all true -- they're following reservations to the letter, no more, no less. To be clear, I don't feel like the hotel owes me anything, and am pleased that they're not canceling anything -- but I still think they're treating these reservations differently than others because they were on a mistake rate.

I am in NYC every couple of months, and usually staying at the Parker Meridien or the Helmsley. I am also a SPG Plat with over a 100 nights this year. Never stayed at this Westin though. Yet.

This will bring me here for just 2 nights. However, the way they have handled this issue, will make me look at returning here as my first choice in the future on work stays. (Unless they put me in a dumpy room! ;) )

many hotels around the world have single occ and double occ as different rates
take le meridian BKK once you put second person in the rate goes up about $US20
so I think cudos to SPG and boo anyone who thinks that the hotel has not done the right thing.
all who booked knew that if they put 2 in the price would go up they chose to put 1 guest in the search so they should only have one guest.:)
its like booking a companion fare on an airline.

In Japan double-occupancy is regularly double the price of single occupancy. I'd look at having booked two rooms as a great way to earn more stays towards elite status.

What constitutes occupancy? Using the room as a different sort of luggage storage and bathroom for self and a couple of friends or relatives for day breaks isn't ordinarily treated as any kind of rate-adjusting issue.

And this is the first time us seasoned travelers have ever seen a hotel in the US care between 1 and 2 people in a hotel room. 3 or 4, different story, but most of us book rooms with 1 person knowing full well two people will be in the room and nobody bats an eye. It is what it is, Westin has decided to stick to the "rules" for the first time ever, and we just have to improvise.

Just don't meet up in the room and be a rule breaker! Come on people. I've stayed at this property and the lobby is HUGE and BUSY. Not to mention it's Times Square and packed. The front desks job is to keep the line moving and check them in as quick as possible.

Also could someone not be invited over to your room while you are visiting? Does that void the "contract"? My guess is Westin is weeding people out. They want people to cancel.

freebee
Aug 25, 12, 10:50 am
If Westin were smart, they would offer to refund the $60 plus tax to anyone who wishes to cancel because of the occupancy issue. They would make a heckuva lot more money selling those rooms at regular rates than they would by intimidating guests into becoming no-shows and still collecting only $60.

Please be advised that this special offer is limited to single occupancy and is valid for the dates confirmed at time of booking. Any changes in dates, number of occupants or room type will result in a rate change and render the $60.00 rate null and void in accordance with hotel room modification policy.

Westin has admitted that this is a special offer for single occupancy. It is a valid rate and they are honoring it.

If you are not happy with that caveat, cancel your reservation and rebook for $385 per night for double occupancy.

For eg.

- They thought my "pick-up" from Shulas was actually my spouse and charged me double occupancy.
- the check-in agent gave me a withering "you scum" look and did not thank me for choosing their hotel.

Etc etc, you get the picture. ;)

Indeed, the rate also includes several $10 credits (this will be the first time I ever take anything from a hotel minibar) and a free in room movie. Those credits knock my $72 extra room down about $15-20 in what it will actually cost me. The Metrocard may as well be cash for me. Anyone know anything about the access to the health spa? I haven't seen this addressed

when you booked this on SPG.com it said how many ADULTS, it did not even give the option for kids or total in the room, edited to add, just trying to recreate the process and its still only asks for number of ADULTs in the room

so if you put one adult and had a kid with you, isn't that adhering to the T&C's

For those who have booked two rooms you actually have two rooms with single occupancy. That may work out fine for some but I suspect many in this situation will really end up with one room with double occupancy and one with zero occupancy (with a few bags in the second room perhaps as cover). If you have two rooms but only really only use one, you are actually causing double financial loss for the hotel as compared to if this "special offer" wasn't made. So while you may feel better in some sense and have lower risk of 'getting caught' you are also not technically within the rules and not doing the hotel any favor.

Aug 28, 12, 7:35 am
My only point is that if you booked two rooms and have two people in one and none in the other that you are still technically violating the rules of the "special offer" and in fact are really causing a greater loss to the hotel. Any room at this rate with more than one occupant is outside the terms of the offer. I am not telling anyone what to do but I have seem a number of posts here and on Gary's blog suggesting that it is better to have booked two rooms suggesting that this approach is not violating the offer. I simply disagree under the circumstances I outlined (i.e. 2 in one room and 0 in the other) and wanted to point out this perspective and that someone with 2 rooms should take this into account if considering whether to cancel on the based of it being the right thing to do as opposed to whether you can get away with it.

So if I simply decided (this is my plan btw bc I will be going with a friend who will use the other room and we do not have a desire to sleep in the same bed) that we each slept in one room, it would be ok but having two in one room and zero in the other is any different? If I'm occupying both rooms, it doesn't much matter. I have both rooms booked, the loss to the hotel is the same whether both of us were in one room or split between two. Adhering to the terms is a different matter, but the financial loss is the same (and were two people to stay in the same room with a second booked and empty, possibly slightly less due to not needing to climate control the second room as strongly, use the bedding/toiletries/shower etc.). I booked two rooms because it listed single occupancy, and I and my friend will each occupy one room. If the hotel truly wanted to strictly enforce that we each slept in separate rooms because that is the letter of the terms on the reservation, I guess they are free to do that, but it would come off as extremely petty in my opinion if two rooms were booked. I have nothing to worry about personally so it isn't a concern here.

Bottom line - the hotel will be the final decision, regardless of who posted what on a website. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they were more vigilant than usual, since SPG openly monitors Flyertalk. Hope everyone enjoys their stay, since hotels have been historically tougher than airlines about honoring mistakes.

http://boardingarea.com/blogs/justanotherpointstraveler/2012/09/09/hotel-review-my-staycation-at-the-westin-times-square/

As we already know, mistake fares, mistake rates, and flash sales are super time-sensitive, so I quickly booked a room on a whim while my adrenaline was rushing even though I live less than 10 miles away from the property. Nevertheless, I was excited to look forward to an excuse to spend a Saturday night out in NYC. To top it off, the $60 rate included a $10 mini bar credit, $10 metrocard, $10 coffee card, 1 free-in room movie, and access to the health spa and fitness center.

I arrived at the property around 11 am, and check in was a breeze. Ironically, the front desk agent did not seem to be aware of the $60 mistake rate; she simply looked up at me and said, “Wow, how did you get such a great rate? Normal rates for this room are over $400″. Despite the strict “one-guest-only” regulation that many people who booked this $60 rate were worried about, I was given two keys. Plus, the lobby is extremely large and constantly busy, so I can’t really see how they’d actually enforce the one-guest-only rule anyway. YMMV.

At check in, I was not asked to choose my gold amenity, nor was I given my $10 metrocard or $10 coffee card. Once I was settled in my room, I called the front desk to activate my in-room wifi as my gold amenity selection. The woman on the phone kept repeatedly telling me that it would cost me $14.95 for 24 hours, and that wifi was only offered as an amenity to platinum guests. After going back and forth a few times, she finally apologized and told me that wifi was indeed offered as a gold amenity. I’m surprised that such a high-volume SPG hotel would be so unsure about their elite amenity choices.

I also asked about the $10 metrocard and coffee card that was included in my rate. It turns out that they did not have any available at the moment, and then told me that they’d have to mail them to my home address. That was a bit disappointing, but I’m sure I’ll receive them (or at least I hope I do…).

I was given a king room on the 12th floor, and the room itself was wonderful, comfortable, and spacious for NYC. The bed sure did live up to its “heavenly” claims. In fact, I think it has to be the single most comfortable hotel bed I’ve slept in to date! The room was quiet (no street noise what-so-ever), and the bathroom had a double-headed shower which provided amazing water pressure. Before heading out for the evening, I kicked back and watched my in-room movie (That’s My Boy), and I sure was glad that the in-room movie was included in the rate (my movie selection was priced at $16.95). I also enjoyed 2 cans of diet Coke ($5.50 each) to apply my $10 mini-bar credit.

As far as the fitness center/spa access, I’m too ashamed to admit that I chose a burger and fries at Shake Shack (…and I even went back for custard) instead of utilizing the health center facilities, so I can’t really provide a genuine “renew your soul” assessment in that regards…

Friday and Saturday check-in guests were given metro cards and Starbucks coffee cards at check-in, but I think it required the check-in staff to go in the back to get approval or sign off on the cards being distributed. Perhaps in some cases, guests sign off on a sheet acknowledging receipt of them too.

Rather surprised to hear the cards were out of stock in the trip report above, when it seemed like they had them but were controlling them for reasonable inventory control purposes. They may have had trouble locating them, as it did seem to take some time in the back for the front desk personnel to get them.

The hotel has been generalll very good about upgrades, late checkout and all other benefits even on this rate. Surprisingly little to no commentary from hotel staff about the rates. :)

And the staff is far better -- more approachable and genuinely friendly -- than hotel staff at most of the other hotels of its class or higher in the city. All around very positive experience AFAIAC.

I was a little disappointed to see they were going to have to mail some of these items after the fact...i mean, what will i do with a metro card after my trip?

But in all honesty, even if i don't get all those added items, I won't be disappointed at all. It is good to know they really aren't policing the extra person...i will be arriving with an SO, but don't plan on checking in with them standing there. The only thing I really want to use is the 4pm checkout, which I will request at check-in. An upgrade would be nice as a platinum, but would just be icing on the cake and not upset if I didn't get it. Very excited for my trip...just need to decide if i want to keep the reservation i have using 10K Southwest points (with companion pass) with a stopover into EWR or go with 50K for first class on AA direct into LGA.

They currently do have the metro cards and Starbucks cards. They apparently had them this weekend too for all the check-ins on rates that included them -- with the only exception being that of one report on this thread -- as others got them on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

4 p.m. checkout even for SPG Corporate/Business/PreferredPlus hasn't been a problem for those whom I know to have stayed here this weekend, so I would expect things to go smoothly in that regard -- but there is some kind of big conference (as is often usual for this place) where four floors of rooms are having the beds removed (apparently for having meeting rooms according to various hotel staff doing the actual removals).

Getting two keys seems to be standard at the property on these rates -- not sure why -- which is a good thing since I often end up needing a second key even on my solo stays.

I usually put one in my wallet and one in another pocket. I should probably put it in my sock or something, so it is completely separated from the other, but I've yet to lock myself out of a hotel room.

The small envelopes are the small, brown (square-ish) Starbucks envelopes for the Starbucks gift cards, or is it some other kind of envelope?

As far as i can tell, this hotel does not have a lounge. Are they offering the free breakfast to plats? Looks like they have 24 hour room service, so I was curious if anybody has any experience with this. Since most i stay at have a lounge, i don't usually worry about breakfast and take the points as my welcome gift. This stay might be a little different.

Plat benefits are provided without issue -- just a little more time checking in since there are a few more things to juggle, including with the Starbucks and Metro cards.

I forgot which branding is on the envelopes, but the ones I've received had the MTA and Starbucks card included in it with someone else's name written on the outside.

Just completed a stay there last night.

I had to ask for the Starbucks card and Metrocard. Once I pointed out the rate I was on, the check-in clerk went into the back office to get the cards. I then had to sign for them.

I am a Gold member, and was not asked what amenity I wanted, but I was "upgraded" to a King room on the 37th floor. Nice room, very quiet.

I only took one item from the mini-bar - Pringles - $5.50 and was charged for this on checkout, so had to ask them to remove the charge. I didn't watch a movie as I had a lot of work that I needed to get done.

All in all, a fantastic value at $60 + tax! Glad that I knew what was included in the rate, or I would definitely have missed out as the check-in staff did not proactively give me the cards or tell me about the movie/minibar.

Just checked in, wasn't given much of an upgrade, not on a top floor at all and view is less than stellar. Kind of disappointing as a platinum. I do have a mac in my room to use (not sure if they all have these or not). At check in i was handed an envelope with all metro and starbucks cards. Hotel looks to be sold out during my stay, so understandable that no better room was given. Chose breakfast as amenity, was handed two cards (for three nights) in a packet...so, I assume it's good for two people? Guess i'll find out in the morning. Can't beat the area or the deal...was even a fairly easy one way drive here from EWR using Hertz's one way rental for $20.

Most of the rooms in the hotel do not have a computer in the room to use, so you must have either ended up in some kind of upgraded type of room or someone left a computer where they shouldn't have.

Just checked in as well. First agent checked me in, offered platinum amenity, and gave me keys. Apologized that he didn't have the metro and starbucks cards, and asked if I would mind stopping back down tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, my keys didn't work. Went back down and new agent gave me a new room assignment and got the metro cards and starbucks cards. He called me "one of the lucky ones" and reminded me to use my mini-bar credit and movies.

I think I got the same room type as MrGolfer. Pretty big for NYC, king bed, sitting area w/ arm chair, window seat, decent view of 8th Ave. Also got the mac...that just seems odd to me, but I'll take it.

Now off to find food and booze - not necessarily in that order!

My experience as well. No problems whatsoever. Got the cards etc at check-in, Plat upgrade to a nice Juinor suite, 4pm check out, took the continental breakfast amenity and it was an excellent grab and go option at bar 10. Bill showed the minibar charge at check-out and this was removed when I mentioned "the deal".

Staff were really friendly and polite. Infact, a much better experience than some of my $300 per night stays at NYC! Well done Westin Times Sq, I'll be back. ^

300 rooms or 300 room nights? Either way, the booking window for this deal was such that it didn't get as much attention as it would have at other times of the day/week/year. That is why I am not surprised that the number wasn't higher despite the very high value return to be had from this deal.

Well done, indeed. ^^

AFAIC, the hotel does well by SPG elites -- without fuss -- and delivers all the benefits (without any hint of confusion or seeding confusion even on 4 p.m. check-out).

I too will be back and getting others to book this hotel. The hotel is very well situated for those who need to get just about anywhere in Manhattan or even elsewhere in the NY/NJ given the plethora of public transport options in the area while combining work and leisure interests; has good facilities; effective service; and it doesn't treat customers as if they are just their rate.

Data point -- had my two-day stay last weekend. No problems checking in, but they didn't have the cards at check-in. Here's where it got interesting -- CSR told me they could be mailed (as others have reported), OR she could apply them as a statement credit, OR she could credit Starpoints. Long story short, leaving out some boring follow-up details, got 3000 points instead of the cards. Also noticed that because the bill was constructed as the regular $200+ rate debited and credited, points were awarded on the rack rate rather than the real rate (got around 900 points for the $120 room). Thumbs up to Westin.

Everything that was supposed to be included was charged for and they seemed Very frustrated about having to honor rate. I just smiled, and kept politely requesting them to honor the different offerings. I was staying two nights and needed to "prove" by showing an email that the items were to be provided daily:) Great neighborhood to be in, close to shows and great food!

Huh, that was the complete opposite of my experience. Nobody batted an eye and I wasn't charged for any of the extras.

Thanks to everyone who posted his/her experience. Thanks to the hotel for honoring the nightly $60 rate.

When I arrived at the hotel on this rate, I was told that the cards would be delivered to my room and the front desk person said that the cards would be supplied for each day of my stay. The next morning, I was told that the cards normally are not delivered to rooms because a signature is required, and that I would only receive one $10 metrocard and one $10 Starbucks card for my entire three-night stay... So, YMMV...

I had a nice room and appreciate the value of the deal -- even without receiving the cards for each day of my stay.

The lady at the desk was extremely helpful.

When she was done getting all the stuff together, I tipped her $5 and wished her a Merry Christmas. (I will not mention her name but she has a Christmas theme message written on her name tag). She said, "Bless you Mr. Nicksterguy." As I walked off, she shouted, " Mr. Nicksterguy, I gave you the wrong room." I said, 'uh okay.' She hit a couple of buttons and recoded my key cards. "Enjoy your corner room on a top floor Mr. Nicksterguy." I thanked her and went up to my nice suite.
