I am booking a trip from Portland to Buenos Aires and noticed that Air Canada has a great Executive Class fare. My Itinerary would be PDX-YVR-YYZ-EZE...but the problem here is that I am a convicted felon and am considered "Inadmissible" to Canada. I don't want to enter the Country per se, just to connect through it. If I have connecting boarding passes, would they let me through ?

If your a convicted felon then presumably you aren't allowed to enter Argentina either...

As per transit through canada call up the consulate and ask them.

Yes, if you are just transiting through the airport nobody is going to check your background. You just cant get a job at mcdonalds there

You will have to enter Canada as the YVR-YYZ flight is domestic.

Entering Argentina is not a problem. Only the UK, Canada, New Zealand, and the Aussies are problematic.

I will give the Consulate a ring..

I can do a PDX-YYZ-EZE itinerary but it requires a 10 hr layover in Toronto. Guess I can hang in the Maple Leaf Lounge.

Not for more than 6 hours in that lounge.

On my ORD-YYZ-EZE/CPH trips, transiting so as to avoid being admitted into Canada by Canadian immigration authorities is possible; however, if my transit time is greater than six hours, then I either have to wait in a dull area until within 6 hours of scheduled departure time or I end up choosing to go landside (which is something you will want to avoid attempting).

Try for a PDX-ORD-YYZ-EZE itinerary to keep your transit time at YYZ under 6 hours.

Thanks for the feedback on this topic. I actually spoke with a very helpful Air Canada Agent (yes they do still exist) and he explained that as long as I am going from USA to International and vice versa, that I do not have to deal with Canadian Immigration. He also added that the YVR stopover is out...I must do PDX-YYZ-EZE. Soon I can post my thoughts on AC's executive class.

I'm pretty sure that the "very helpful" Air Canada agent is wrong and you do have to deal with Canadian Customs and Immigration. Even the YYZ website seems to indicate that's the case: http://torontopearson.com/Connecting_from_usa.aspx#

I wonder if there is a rare exception if you are not "leaving" the plane.

There is an Air New Zealand flight that goes from London to Auckland with a stop at LAX. Would the USA give exemptions to those passing through?

Could there possibly be a flight routing say a on united/air Canada that flies from ORD to ANC with a stop in Calgary.

Pax on NZ1 and NZ2 AKL LHR via LAX and return - do have to clear US Immigration - so any felons will not be allowed to board.
AC used to fly SYD YVR via HNL and return and this was often an issue on these flights too.

This is one of the reason why NZ has gone with AKL LHR via HKG as the pax just found getting off the plane in LAX lining up being processed and then going back thru security just to sit in a transit lounge a total pita

Canada is one of the strictest countries to travel through. They dont let anyone in even with a DUI. President Bush himself had to file special papers to travel there because he had a drunken driving conviction. A lot of people have given you different answers on here, but the common sense of the thing is they do not want criminals in their country but they will gladly send you on your way to another country.

AC arriving passengers from US with onward intl connections are diverted pre standard immigration/custom towards the intl departure area. There is a CBSA agent at that point that all passengers has to hand over their passport for a check before being admitted to the intl departure area.
HOWEVER
I have never gone through US YYZ intl transit so I do not know what that check involves.
