Hi
I will spend the first week of my honeymoon in HKG and Macau.
I would like to spend the next week in relaxation mode, somewhere beachy, more relaxed than HKG
I will be travelling in November. Happy to fly to the next point of call: looking to spend up to US $300 per night on accomodation
Any inspriation gratefully received.

So many choices.
Thailand is 3 hours away, Bali is 5. Closer, Cebu in the Philippines has some nice resorts.
Personally I would say Bali but the full days travel may put you off

Consider BKK. Wonderful hotels and service and a short hop from HKG.

Closest resort-type destination (which I have never been to) is Hainan Island, China.
I believe as a special exception, most western passport holders don't need a Chinese visa to do this, but you should check if you are considering this.

Has to be with a group. From the Chinese Embassy in Washington website:
A foreign citizen holding an ordinary passport issued by any of the following countries is exempted from a visa if he or she joins a tourist group (of 5 or more persons) organized by an international travel agency registered in Hainan with the approval of China National Tourism Administration to visit Hainan Province and his/her stay is no more than 15 days: Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, the U.K., Ukraine and the United States of America.
Citizens of Germany, Republic of Korea and Russia may join an international tourist group (of 2 or more persons) and can stay up to 21 days.

Are you heading back to HK afterwards, or back home?
If the prior, I'd suggest you check out the packages with CXHolidays and someone like http://www.amextravel.com.hk/index.asp
In fact regardless that might throw up some good ideas.
My money would be on Thailand as offering great service at a good price. There are nonstop flights from HK to Ko Samui, as well as Phuket. Probably go for a smaller resort to get a more relaxing place.

As the OP is looking for a more laid back destination AFTER honeymooning in Hong Kong, the query has been moved to the Asia Forum for wider member input.

(Hint: I might also look at some China destinations, but also look over any destination in terms of weather - the right place in the wrong weather can be a non-starter, IMO. A good place to start is World Climate Charts (http://www.climate-charts.com/).)

Bali and the Thai beaches are the obvious choices. Farther away would be Australia, where $300 a night precludes a few of the Great Barrier Reef resorts, but still allows lots of choices. Some can be hard to get to, involving small planes and then transfer to hydrofoils, but since this isn't the start of your honeymoon, it isn't an issue.
Do not even consider taking a group tour or anything involving group travel for a honeymoon.

I consider the same choice, i agree to spend your next honeymoon week in Bali. It has a lot of beaches which you can consider to get around there. You are searching for relaxing place it depends on where you will stay. I think you must spend your quality time together and of course should be private one without ignoring your main constraint "relaxation" then i think private villa is not bad enough to seek, i recommend you to check this http://www.balihoneymoonvillas.com/ regarding to the choice of accommodation and place to visit :)

Hainan Island would be towards the bottom of my list, especially someone from Australia.
Have you already booked the flights? You can fly back to Australia via plenty of great beach destinations.
You can fly direct from Hong Kong to Phuket, with plenty of options there. Bali is a obvious choice. Plenty of quiet and different places in Vietnam and the Philippines if you want a little adventure.

Thanks for all your feedback.
Wedding is in Surabaya so plan is to spend one week in Hong Kong afterwards. Following that I am now choosing between:
- Boracay
- Sanya
- Palawan
Leaning towards Boracay as easier to get to than Palwan..

Boracay is nice but has turned very touristy in the recent years. May get crowded. I went 20 years ago and there were zero tourists and zero pollution.
I would like to go to Maldives myself with my wife. Though it's too dang far from the USA. And $$$.

Yup. Hainan (Sanya) is also at the bottom of my lists, too.
I'd second the recommendations for a (quiet) Thai beach.

I would say that Boracay as your choice is the best.
For accommodation in Boracay, you can make an easy and quick search to find the best deal for you in http://crispy-hotels.com/
Congratulations and enjoy your honeymoon!
