Las Vegas - Post New Years Drive to LA

I lived in LA from 2001-2007 but never had a chance to go to Las Vegas for New Years...

New Years happens to fall on Tuesday this year.

I've always heard about terrible traffic coming back to LA 8-10 hours worth on I-15, but I wanted to know which days are terrible for this drive?

has anyone made this drive in recent years?

I would certainly avoid that Tuesday afternoon drive if you can. I would assume it is like the usual awful Sunday afternoon drives, except a little worse. Be careful, as many of your fellow motorists might be hung over.

my several recent sunday afternoon drives were not too bad (busy but no more than half hour extra) - i usually leave around 5-6 pm

i suspect jan 1 though will be miserable given hangover and lack of sleep for many..
