Just wanted to post on my very positive experience at Addo. We were concerned about the weather this time of year, but it worked out beautifully. We stayed in SANParks accommodations (Main Rest Camp) and were happy with everything there. We self drove part of the time and went on two of the park's game drives, one sunset, and one sunrise. We saw a lot of animals when self-driving but the game drives also seemed really worth it -- the vehicles went on some paths that cars aren't allowed on, and we saw larger families of animals (elephants, zebras) including youngsters up close. We didn't see the park's cats, but saw just about everything else. It was our first safari experience so we have nothing to compare it to, but the game viewing seemed excellent to us given the quantity and variety of animals, and how close we were to them. We were only there one night but spent the better part of two days in the park, and were able to see a lot in that amount of time.

Thanks for sharing. ^

Glad you enjoyed the trip.

Addo doesn't get much of a mention on FT. I don't think I've ever been there actually.

We were concerned about the weather this time of year.Addo has a four-seasons-in-a-day climate for most of the year, you can never really be quite sure about the weather.

Indeed a nice national park, though.

We had a brief visit to Addo a few years ago and loved it. It's only about an hour's drive from Port Elizabeth. We stayed outside the park in a comfortable lodge, and took the night drive. I was struck by the vast number of elephants. I looked into returning on an upcoming trip to South Africa, but it doesn't fit in our schedule. It's good to know that park accommodations are comfortable.
