But it still makes you wonder why they would need the PIN... Any insight on this?

There was already sometime ago a promotion where you had to enter your PIN. I don't like this either and stay away from these promotions. It is bad business practice and a security risk to ask someone for his PIN, Password.

This is the mymiles promo for new members who get a boarding pass mailed to them with the link. Who knows why they want the PIN.

This may be a bit far-fetched, but as it arrives with the first M&M card, I guess it's one way to divert the user's attention to the existence of the PIN and stress its importance. I really can't come up with anything better, heh.
