Hilton HHonors - I'm Gold, Husband's Silver. Gold benefits with room booked on his points?

I KNOW there was a thread about this before, but I haven't been able to find it! Sorry about that. :(

I'm Gold, husband is Silver. We just booked 6 nights next spring at the Conrad Tokyo (per FT's advice!) for 225,000 points. I'm hoping to get the benefits of being Gold (possible upgrade, FREE INTERNET etc.)

Can we get Gold benefits if I'm staying in the same room? Are we likely to get any benefits other than free internet if the room is booked on points? There will be three of us, me, my husband, and our daughter. Thanks for your help!

They have no obligation to extend the gold benefits.I'd send an email with your request. You can also flash your card at the desk when you arrive.

have your husband add your name as additional guest, then write emial to gold at hiltonres dot com and ask her to change the reservation to your account number so you can enjoy your gold benefits, this worked for us on an upcoming stay, or just have your husband sign up for the new citi hilton reserve card pay the 95 and have him upgraded to gold.

If you are gold and staying in the room then you should get gold benefits. It doesn't matter if it's a paid stay or a reward stay - the benefits should be given.

Was the room booked using your account as a gold or from your husbands account? If from the silver account holder, you may want to have Honors put the room in your name and make a note that you are a gold member.

Here is what Gold's are entitled to at Conrad and Hilton properties. Look at to see what you have your My Way prefernces set to.

This is not true. Just have the reservation made with the person's name that has the highest Honors level amd make sure the hotel knows. A person with blue status can book a room for a Diamond member and the Diamond member will receive Diamond perks, etc.

Thank you so much for the replies! The reservation was made from his account since he has the miles. I will call them and make sure they know I'll be staying in the room.

We may get a Reserve card if I can manage to shift our trip dates - currently we're only staying for one weekend day but if I can shift the dates by one day and get the reserve card, we can do two free nights and an AXON reward for the other four days, which will save us 80k HH points! But first I have to find availability on AA...

Having checked the "My Way" section of the Hilton site, I'm wondering - which is more valuable, 1000 HH points or a free breakfast? With three of us in the room, it sounds like only two of us could get breakfast anyway. (Unless...if we were both gold?)

Thanks again for the help and advice with this. I appreciate it a lot!

Get them to put the reservation in YOUR name with him and the child as additional guests. You did put that there would be three people in the room? I hope your daughter is actually a child and not considered an adult by hotel standards. Many overseas hotels will abide by local laws as to the number of people allowed in the room. An award is for a standard room for two people, anything over that may cause a problem unless the hotel has been notified in advance.

I always go for the free food especially overseas where breakfast can cost $30 a person. This would make breakfast for two people the equivelent of saving $60. 1000 HH points aren't worth that much money!. Also many hotels have been known to extend the free breakfast to everyone in the room (especially children) but are under no obligation to do so.

Being both gold probably won't give you three free breakfasts (or four for that matter) unless you are booking two rooms and each "occupy" one of the rooms.

Hmm, now this is interesting.

I just called HHonors customer service (the # on the back of my gold card) and explained that my husband had booked a room and I was staying in it, too. The CSR said, "To get the Gold benefits, the reservation has to be booked in the Gold member's name." Now, that may or may not be true, but I just asked her nicely if she could change the reservation to my name. She did so and it only took a couple of minutes.

The interesting thing is that the reservation now shows up under my HHonors account instead of my husband's. I wonder what would happen if I canceled the reservation - would the refunded points go into my account or his? Seems like there might be some possibilities there for 'combining' points if one was careful and did not abuse the system...

Actually the points might stay as an "unused certificate" or that's what used to happen when they were paper. I am not sure if the pints would automatically be put back into the original account or stay in an electroinic certificate form. Either way the points would not be put into your account if you canceled unless a mistake was made.

I did a cancel on reward stay (online) back in June and the points go back to my account. On the Hhonors activities page, the line was completely removed as if it never happened.

I had to cancel a rewards stay earlier this year and the points went back into my account immediately (I canceled over the phone). I'm just noting that the points to pay for this stay came from my husband's account, but the reservation was transferred to my account (I couldn't even see it on his account when I logged in - I had to log in to my own account to see it!) If I canceled it, the points might well end up in my account.

*shrugs* It doesn't matter, because we're not planning on canceling and we both have HHonors accounts, but it's an interesting data point.

I think this is a very interesting question, I have half a mind to try it because I am in the same situation with my long-term boyfriend where he has the status but at the moment I have all the points.

Given that you two are married do you think that made the transferring of the reservation name easier? If it were two people without the same name who were not married would they not do the transfer?

You don't have to transfer the reservation. You can make the reward reservation in anyone's name. You just cannot do it online; you have to call and ask them to put the room under that person's name. It doesn't have to be spouse or relatives; it could be a complete stranger.

Need is right, I don't think it matters in whose name you make the reservation. Since it's your boyfriend's account, he might need to be there to confirm the reservation if it hasn't already been made, though my husband was not when I asked them to change mine, so it may not matter.

Why not e-mail the General Manager, Mario Ferraro? (The Internet revreals more - see the Conrad Tokyo Linkedin page (http://www.linkedin.com/company/conrad-tokyo).)

Similar lines: a buddy and I are going to be sharing a room. I'm gold. He has no status but needs to get reimbursed for the room. How should we run it so we get internet and breakfast but his name is on the room for reimbursement?

Thanks!

There is more than one way to do this, including your booking the room and your buddy using his credit card in at check-in and departure... You can even add him as a second guest.
