United MileagePlus (Consolidated) - United changed my flight for $0.31

Normally, people tend to complain about United (I know I have) but they really helped me out today.

Had a flight booked for CUN-IAH-AUS but I logged on to Kayak and noticed a CUN-AUS has been added on the same day. I called the Premier Line and they changed me to the direct flight at no change fee, but they did charge me the $0.31 difference in fare.

Nice move by them and very happy it was done with a 5 minute phone call.

Nice it worked for you - have to say though, this is one of the most bizarre non hub-non hub routes the airline flies!

Know it's seasonal - but does it really deserve a 747?! ;)

I think that's probably because it's a new flight which you couldn't have booked before and you're premier.

Normal cases they probably won't waive the fee, especially for non-premier. Good job though!

Are you sure it was the difference in fare, and not an international tax issue?

Was your trip booked more than 24 hours ago? If so, then ^ to UA :)

Wow, CUN-AUS is one of United's only mainline flights nonhub to nonhub.

Well UA now has a shocking number of hub-to-hub fights operated by RJs. Now we know where one of the mainline jets has gone...

CUN has a few. I believe RDU does, too. And SAT.

Yes, it was actually $0.31 per ticket, for 2 tickets, $0.62 total.

I booked the flight about a month ago, noticed this morning and called. Not sure when they added the direct to the schedule for mid-December.

At first, I logged onto the website and they wanted to charge me $150 per ticket to change. I figured calling CS wouldn't help but gave it a try anyway. Pleasantly surprised.

The agent told me he was able to change it because "it's easier for everyone if you fly direct and I can make the change since the direct flight wasn't on the schedule when you booked. You just need to pay the difference in fare, which is $0.31 per ticket."

I'm a newly attained Silver, after moving from AA, btw, not a ton of miles on UA yet.
