According to CX website there was a runway closure earlier today at HKG. It seems to have caused a few delays. I think it has re-opened now, but does anyone know the reason for the runway closure and what time it shut?

HX235 wasn't able to move off the runway after landing at 1150

They probably didn't have money to pay for the tug to tow it off the runway.

^;)

But with four blown tires it is not a simple process of hooking up a tug. There is the issue of potential damage to landing gear assembly with that many tires out.

Sat in the plane for a few extra hours at PVG because of this, but still most important is that the crew and pax on that HX flight are safe and accounted for. :)

Was sort of a kick to go swimming at the Regal outdoor pool and watch the brooding sky...Now waiting for delayed onward flight but in good spirits.

HX had a very heavy landing and blew four tyres. Very fortunate these clowns didn't kill anybody. Completely unsafe outfit.

Another way to rephrase - due to the experience and skills of the crew members, the plane landed under extra ordinary circumstances and stress without major mishap or causing any serious injuries to the passengers. Tires can be replaced but not lives. Kudos to the captain.

Let's be honest - EK had a similar incident couple month before:
