Email from AI, difficult to imagine them as being ready for any alliance:
"Due to technical difficulties, we regret to inform you that the following facilities shall not be available temporarily effective 17th Aug 12.

Purchasing award tickets online and through the call centre
To purchase award tickets please contact nearest Air India office with membership card and proof of identity. In case you send a representative, membership card and authorisation letter along with proof of your identity should also be sent..."

its not as if their online & call center worked in any case....:rolleyes:
everytime i tried to book online i would get an error message saying something like 'we cannot book your ticket as you already have an open quote'....
as far as their call center is concerned, only domestic tickets could be booked....international tickets could only be put on hold & a trip to the city or airport office was required to complete the transaction....
Is this related to the recent 'compromise' of the Air India database ...

This is disappointing. AI's website was looking better and better... Cutting this capability is a major downgrade to the website.

Probably. It's absolutely ridiculous that AI has contracted out so much back-end work to a direct competitor. I guess this is the reflexive reaction.

This is disappointing. AI's website was looking better and better... Cutting this capability is a major downgrade to the website.
it may have looked better & better but its functionality was still very poor....

never tried intl tickets, but domestic ticket redemption works just fine both online and through the call center.
The problem you refer to has to do with your cache. My daughter solved that problem by restarting the browser after closing all open windows. :)

no problem with domestic tickets....but booking, or even changing, international tickets could not be done online or over the phone....

i restarted my browser, my computer & then finally used a 2nd computer but the problem still remained....

But did you do it on the 5th Tuesday in the month while standing on one leg and reciting prayers to your computer with agarbati in hand?
P.S. Don't tell this magic trick to anyone else though, or they will eat up all the award availability, okay! :p

There is some major issue with international tickets on the air India website, to certain destinations. I had to travel to dammam once and I must have tried a hundred times yet could not book tickets, as it would say the flight was full. Which was utter crap because I used to operate the flight with never more than 50% load.
Ultimately had flown Saudia.

I have booked FRA-DEL-FRA and many domestic flights on award website. Never had any problems.
It's very annoying that AI is cancelling online booking.
