Mileage Run Discussion - SJU overnight tips?

Anyone here done an overnight in the SJU airport before? I'm doing a DTW-SJU-HNL-SJU-DTW mileage run with overnights in SJU in both directions. Unfortunately it was the only way the flights worked. I'm using a ~$1,000 R/T fare in business/first for SJU-HNL-SJU on AA one direction and DL return. DTW-SJU round trip is on cheap fares.

I have about 6-7 hours overnight in both cases and hope to not leave the secure area. I'm doing two full days in HNL, so that's where I plan to spend my vacation $$ on this run.

From what I understand, you can stay in the secure area if they don't find you (huddle in a dark corner). They'll sweep you out otherwise. Read that the airport is cold so have a blanket.

My plan is to go to the San Juan (ex Best Western) Hotel which is on-premise walk to/from (others with shuttles will charge you). I may have 6-7 hours before departure or I may land around 2AM on B6 depending on whether I need to do a dinner in PBI the night before. Given my flight timings, that's the last window for a shower until my second time through DFW (I have about 40 minutes in HNL). If you stay there, please post as I believe you are doing the run before I am.

Can't speak to sleeping in the San Juan airport but will merely say very quickly that when I was there (knock on wood!) cabs were both cheap and honest, and the distance to Contado, casinos etc. is both not very far and to my mind not very expensive. Plus they make a MEAN martini in a variety of flavors. There are places where I would overnight in the airport. Not sure San Juan is one of them...Four hours yes, because of the hassle of the agricultural inspection but 7 hours...it is just too tempting to step out and enjoy the night life.

They WILL kick you out of the secure area after the last flight arrives, so forget about staying there for the whole night.

Once you get to the non secure area, there isnt many comfortable seating areas. You can hang out downstairs near the baggage claim area, but thats it. I certainly wouldn't fall asleep there though, so I think you'd be better off taking a cab over to the Carolina hotels (InterContinental, El San Juan...etc) and checking out their Casino's, bars...etc).

If minimimizing costs you can take the local bus from the T5 airport to Isla Verde for 75 cents, a 5 minute ride (or taxi for $12) and spend time at the El San Juan Hilton casino resort. Nice beach and on my last trip there I watched someone win a jackpot on the slot machine for $1200

Looks like JetBlue has flights arriving at 2:18am and 3:45am, so perhaps one wouldn't get kicked out for long? First flight out is 6am too, and I'm on the 6:45am to MIA. Last time I got kicked out of a secure area was OAK and we only had to leave for a couple hours....I can't believe they found my hiding spot!

I'll report my experiences...probably live if my phone works. My overnights are 8/28 and 9/1. I checked out the SJ Best Western...definitely too expensive for a short MR overnight.

This is a great thread since there will be A LOT of people in a similar situation with all the SJU MR deals....

Hopefully someone can confirm that SJU does not have wifi...but how is it on outlets?

Also PR counts as part of the US for most mobile phone companies, so using your phone there isn't a problem(?)

Does the airport hotel, the Best Western, have a 24 hour casino?

The bus someone mentioned, when I checked it didn't seem like that runs 24/7 so might not work for those who have late arrivals and/or early departures.

I hope people can use this thread to share ideas and experiences at SJU!

No problem with this, all cell companies are represented there, and since this is a large metro area, there is no problem regarding coverage. I use Sprint

Unfortunately, this casino closed over 3-4 years ago. Anyone that will like to buy chips from that place? let me know. The nearest casino is El San Juan Hotel a short 5-7 minute cab ride.

The bus someone mentioned, when I checked it didn't seem like that runs 24/7 so might not work for those who have late arrivals and/or early departures.
This is true, bus service is NOT 24/7. I myself have not used public transportation in SJU, as I always rent a car. You certainly have to use a cab.

I hope people can use this thread to share ideas and experiences at SJU!
Other things to mention is that there is no nearby food places at the airport late at night or early am, as they are closed. However, Isla Verde has some modest restaurant/bar/pub establishment that are 24/7. I frequently eat at Don Jose as it open 24/7, reasonably priced food. It is a short cab ride from the airport.

If you plan on taking a cab from the airport to Isla Verde or Condado, keep in mind that to get a cab back to airport, you have to get it from the hotel cab stand area, as that is where they wait.

Isla Verde cab ride is about 5-7 minutes, Condado cab ride is 15-25 minutes, just so that you get an idea on time.

Most of the big name hotels in the area always have a party like atmosphere at the lobby, with dj, live music, but it does slow down in the early hours, however, there is always something going on.

Isla Verde cab ride is about 5-7 minutes, Condado cab ride is 15-20 minutes, just so that you get an idea on time.

So roughly how much do those cab rides cost?

Also I assume PR uses the normal US Postal system...so the same stamps and postage if I wanted to send a card from there? I read on-line that SJU has a post office....

Also if you need supplies/munchies etc the Puebla Extra supermarket on the road to Isla Verde is probably your best bet.

I think there is a Denny's in Isla Verde near the hotels (I've noticed it, but never been there). That may be open 24 hours, and you can get some food after hitting the casinos, grab a cup of coffee, and maybe even some WiFi?

Starbucks is everywhere, and has WiFi.

Verizon definitely works in PR, same rates as everywhere else. No problems.

PR is part of the US, so yes, same postal system (also US dollars). Send letters, postcards, etc. Ask the front desk at whatever casino hotel you are at to mail them for you.

Taxi from the airport to the Isla Verde strip is about $12 each way.

A cab from the airport to Isla Verde is $12 and takes about 10 minutes. I go there often and would not bother with Condado. We often get the early am flight back to the US and just go out on the street and find a cab in less than 5 mins. There are lots of local type restaurants that are open 24 hours. In this area you can also find Chili's, Longhorn and some others. There is a Holiday Inn a little down from the El San Juan which might be reasonable for an overnight. Otherwise you can just visit El San Juan and Intercontinental casinos, grab something to eat at a nearby bar and head back to the airport.

Great thread...I was wondering the same thing re: SJU overnights as we come up on the MR season. I found some old threads where people apparently overnighted in the airport, so I'm glad someone told me to steer clear of that.

I'm shooting for the ~11:15pm arrivals and then back out at 7:30am. It sounds like the credited time-killer is to hit up Isla Verde and enjoy whatever 24-hour amenities you can find.

Don't stay at SJU overnight. SJU is a resort destination. Go out and have a little fun. I stayed at the airport BW. The rooms are microscopic, but the hotel is right at the terminal, so it's very convenient if you have an early flight. My VZW prepaid worked for texts only, voice didn't (although it was supposed to). T-Mo prepaid worked for both text and voice.

That's two people who tell me that I am putting out bad info.

I was there in March and I was informed that that PR is considered domestic coverage by Sprint but it is considered something else by Verizon. Maybe the confusion is Verizon vs Claro or maybe it was the extent of free roaming?

It could also have been a language problem. PR is part of the US but the culture is different..especially among the older generation.

At any rate, I am quite sure that Sprint works fine and that I was not subject to additional fees during my visit.

I also had a great time in PR.

Considering a lot of us will be in SJU overnight it might be worth posting specific dates so we can meet up and maybe share cabs and things....

I'll be in SJU over night for most weekends (Saturday into Sunday) of September. I have a yellow FlyerTalk tag on my bag so if anyone sees me say hello!

Based on advice on this thread I'll probably cab it to Isla Verde.

When we get a cab which hotel should be tell the cab to take us to? For returning is there just one specific cab stand, or can we just flag down a cab, or just go to any hotel since I assume they each have a cab stand?

Once you walk out of the main entrance road of the airport, there are no sidewalk around and the main road nearby has speed limit of 45MPH. This is not a safe area for someone to walk around, even more at nightime. Public transportation is rather limited and it is not 24/7.

I would seriously stay clear of walking out on feet. Seing that many are doing this run, maybe have some sort of list of dates and time and see if you meet up with others and share a cab ride.

Ok...
What location should I give to the cab driver in order to have him to bring me to the closest beach location. Swimming in the ocean in the night- is it not dangerous? For a person from West Coast there is the time difference of +4 hours, which means midnight at SJU is only 8pm at SFO.
I would go for a swim unless it's dangerous.
From all those pictures on the web I assume the beach area facing Isla Verde is if not safe, then at leas not dark in the night. Is there any way to sleep on the beach?

I would go on or more importantly try to sleep on the beach at night. The police in PR are not to be fooled with. Not to mention you would be no pretty picture in the morning.

I suggest you do Priceline or Hotwire for a hotel room where you can shower and change, grab a bit of sleep.

Just returned from AA SJU run yesterday. Have 7 more to go between now and next month (AA and UA).

Having only skimmed over this thread, my SJU experience:

* called Verizon global support while passing 7 hours in B6 terminal (pre-security). More on B6 below. Re: VZW, I was told that calls would incur int'l $0.69/minute rate, but both data and text are treated as domestic. I have unlimited domestic data and text packages, so this was great. No need to make calls at 2am, anyway.

* B6 terminal is far and away the place you want to be to pass the wee hours (if not leaving the airport). Plenty of seating/proximate restrooms/staffed 24hrs/free wifi. Wall outlets are available, but not convenient to seating options. Attempted to use one of B6's myriad wheelchairs to avoid sitting on the floor next to outlet...only to be told that wheelchairs were reserved for people who "actually" needed them. I won't regale you with reverse racism minutia (young male gringos [read: me] occasionally don't receive the warmest of welcomes in SJU), but I managed to convince the B6 agent/purported supervisor that I would certainly surrender the wheelchair if he should find himself inundated with 40 elderly pax at 2am. Having sufficiently demonstrated his authority, he agreed to let me occupy the wheelchair for the next 2 hrs. (Side note: wheelchair returned before the first disabled pax arrived.)

Back on track: I didn't try to stay in the secure area, as AA's SJU concourses (D/E) are wholly underwhelming. Note that you can easily walk between the various concourses. UA's concourse (B) is a big improvement on C, D & E, but as others have mentioned, you will probably be flushed out after a certain hour.

* I definitely used free public wifi in pre-security area at B6/concourse A. Not sure why some have denied the existence of free wifi.

* For anyone in need of a more immediate Global Entry appointment, I was able to change my late-September apt @ LAX to next week in SJU. SJU Global Entry appointments are available nearly every day (M-F, 0800-1900 apprx), and are conveniently located next to AA check-in area.

Happy Caribbean flying! Let's collectively hold our breaths for no schedule-impacting storms.

The Best Western in the airport is OK but can be expensive. Check rates at bestwestern.com and use one of the discounted rates (senior, AAA, government, Internet,) rather than using one of the other hotel search engines (Expedia, Travelocity, Hotels.com, etc.). I've usually paid around $20 each way for a cab and have found the Marriott Courtyard in Santurce to be the best value at around $98.

Although there is coverage, it is spotty in all of San Juan at best, especially in the airport building. I cannot get a VZW signal in the AA terminal to save my life but can bearly get it near a window in the UA portion, same goes with my VZW air card...it only works with a clear line of sight to the sky in my experience...

Unfortunately, this casino closed over 3-4 years ago. Anyone that will like to buy chips from that place? let me know. The nearest casino is El San Juan Hotel a short 5-7 minute cab ride.

I arrived at the ESJ recently at 0500 and the casino was temporarily closed...:( ...it was open again that evening so maybe they have a short closing time for cleaning and maintenance? Or maybe that specific entrance was just closed?

Other things to mention is that there is no nearby food places at the airport late at night or early am, as they are closed. However, Isla Verde has some modest restaurant/bar/pub establishment that are 24/7. I frequently eat at Don Jose as it open 24/7, reasonably priced food. At most major hotels, this is absolutely true! :-: I arrived at the ESJ at 0500 and it was in full swing...I have also left the Conrad Condado at around 0500 and the DJ was bumping...looks like a cold drink can be had there in San Juan pretty much anytime there is a bartender present, which = :D :D :D

Taxi from the airport to the Isla Verde strip is about $12 each way.

Isla Verde can definitely be walked to from SJU -- I have seen many PR-based flight crews walking through Isla Verde on my way to the airport and then I saw them walking through the terminal later...guess they live in that area? I am not sure if I would walk it at night without knowing the way but it can be done...I will not be trying it myself, though! @:-) Something to remember when looking at hotels...add $25 r/t if staying in Isla Verde and $40+ minimum if in Old SJ or Candado...that might end up making the on-airport hotel more appealing when the hassle of transportation is taken into account.

Also Jetblue's last flight in is from JFK at around 3am, and the first flight out is 6am so I'm not sure how they could kick everyone out of the secure area for more than 1/2 hour or so if they were so inclined.

I would hope so...even if I get kicked out of the B6 area it is probably still nicer landside than the old terminals airside! FWIW, the Admiral's Club...which is the last airline club left there (I think) opens at 545a....

There are early ~6am flights on several airlines, so I imagine they have to start letting people through security well before 5am. The possible window for evacuation is very small, so I'm not too worried. B6 terminal will be my planned home!

Returned yesterday from SJU. Sadly forgot a bag of espresso beans on AA's MIA-LAX 777 service. I trust someone will enjoy them.

My latest experience:

Per suggestions on this thread, decided to check out Isla Verde. Took cab to El San Juan hotel (Hilton) for $15 each way ($10 base + $2 fuel surcharge + $1 bag fee + $1 late night surcharge + $1 tip. PR taxi authority: nickel and dime much?)

The hotel itself was a royal miss: mediocre lounge act playing at excessively loud levels. And by "lounge act," I mean to say one guy with a Macbook Pro, an amp, and a microphone. To his credit, there were several local couples Mambo-ing up on the dance floor. Oh, and by "dance floor," I mean to say "hotel lobby." No proper dance floor as such...

Uninspired by the bar scene, and disinclined to spend time in wannabe casinos, I headed up to "Brother Jimmy's" on the 10th floor. This open-air restaurant/bar would be a decent place to kill some time were it not for their midnight closing time. Even so, I managed to pass about an hour here, as the bartender simply locked the front door at closing (rather than kick out the few patrons.) Pleasant breeze and beach view to boot. Note: $10 Don Q rum & coke. For the true penny-pinching mileage runner, I'd suggest plunking a well-timed dollar into a casino slot machine as a cocktail waitress passes by. PR may not be Americanized through and through, but Vegas's free drinks for gamblers concept hasn't escaped them.

After closing on the 10th floor, I wandered back downstairs to catch part of the Dodgers vs Giants game. Hotel staff seemed indifferent to my occupying a lobby seat (simultaneously charging phone/laptop), so I stayed until the lounge act was no longer bearable (< 30 minutes). During said 30 minutes, I pondered the advisability of a solo white guy walking several blocks to another Isla Verde hotel. Realizing that I'd sooner hang myself by shoelace than to remain in the San Juan lobby for 5+ hours, I gathered the requisite courage to explore the IV strip at 12:30am. Departed the lobby and hooked a left...ending up at the Ritz-Carlton (7 min walk.) I wouldn't go so far as to recommend those unfamiliar with the area to go exploring at midnight, but I can confirm there were indeed other gringos out on foot (also, no shortage of police).

After the Hilton, the tranquil Ritz was just my speed. Spent the first hour drinking the casino out of rum via nickel slots (at a net cost of $5), followed by another two hours split between pool lounge chairs and lobby arm chair (more electronic device charging + reading). No bags permitted in casino, laptop bag included. Left bags with front desk.

*Isla Verde side note: Hilton doorman indicated that the nearby Denny's is not 24/7. He seemed to think they reopen for breakfast around 0600 (though he didn't know when they close.)

Got back to the terminal with four hours to go before my 0645 dept. I swear the time passed quicker on my last SJU turn (when I planted myself in a chair at pre-security B6.) AA moved the 0600 MIA dept to 0645--perhaps the extra 45 minutes is what got me.

As I've already given my SJU impressions a few posts up, I'll just say that on this occasion, I discovered a local Rican sandwich shop that cooks up decent breakfast pitas (among other things) for about $2. Coffee will set you back a dollar. Be prepared to habla español. Located near McDonald's and Subway (near Delta check-in/B), this local spot appears to cater to the graveyard shift airport employees.

Back to SJU in a few hours, tropical storm Isaac permitting.

This isn't a Best Western now. I tried to book it at Best Western's website, but their nearest hotel is several islands away. lol.

I didn't bother to note the name of the hotel when I walked past, though I think it is a local/non-chain establishment now. Looked crummy. I'd sooner rough it in the terminal than to overpay for a dive.

I'm at SJU now just got up from my first night. The airport is fantastic for sleeping. The AA terminal is deserted at night, and I found a pile of cots down by gate 4. I arrived at 11:30pm and got a solid five hours of sleep before worker noise began around 4:30am. All the rum on the flight in helped too. I didn't even investigate the other terminals. Today i've got SJU-MIA-LAX-HNL looking forward to the 777 in business. 51 hours on the ground in HNL before going back to SJU on Delta.

I'm in San Juan currently. In SJU (the actual airport), Sprint service is almost nonexistent. The signal drips frequently. Outside of the airport, voice and data service is fine in San Juan. I'm writing this post on Sprint's 3G in Old San Juan.

I didn't have any problems using Sprint on my Galaxy S2 in the AA terminal.

I had service in the UA terminal near the windows, but the further in toward security, I lost the signal. I frequently lost signal even at the (outdoor) taxi stand

If anyone has any info on the Marriott Courtyard Isla Verde, please post. I just made a points reservation for a night in late October when I start a MR there. I'll get there around 11PM & flight out at 6:40AM.

Questions:

1) how hard to get cabs (airport / early at hotel - 5AMish)
2) hotel site says cab $12 each way - is that right?
3) comments on quality ( shower and a nap)

Anything else?

Thanks

I'm at SJU now just got up from my first night. The airport is fantastic for sleeping. The AA terminal is deserted at night, and I found a pile of cots down by gate 4. I arrived at 11:30pm and got a solid five hours of sleep before worker noise began around 4:30am.

This is good news....

So where exactly where the cots? Where they set up all ready or "collapsed" and you set one up to be able to sleep on it.

Did you ever end up leaving airside or did you stay there the whole night?

Right next to AA gate 4. They were assembled and stacked in piles...all you have to do is grab one off the stack. I'm assuming these were out for displaced Issac travelers, so I'm hoping they're still in place Saturday night for my second overnight.

I stayed airside the entire night. With ~6 hours in between flights, having been up since 4:45am and on four flights to arrive in SJU, and having plenty to drink....I slept great in the terminal :D

No TSA PreCheck @ AA's entry point. SJU is a great place for Global Entry appointments, though. Just got back from LHR and used GE for the first time. If it wasn't for SJU, I'd still be waiting for my Global Entry appointment at LAX...

If you're at a hotel, getting a cab won't be a problem. Ask the airport taxi stand for the number to dispatch if you want to play it safe. I overnighted in Viejo San Juan during one of my six SJU turns last month. Getting a cab back to SJU for my 0600 dept. was as simple as calling dispatch (15 mins later, cab was in front of my door.)

If staying on the island for more than a few hours, I highly recommend airbnb.com. You'll save a bundle over San Juan's unreasonably expensive hotels. Some cool rooms for rent in old SJ.

If you are staying at a major hotel, It souldn't be an issue - I leave SJU all the time at ungodly hours and don't have an issue at all. Is always a good idea to check with the front desk at checkin and possibly have them preorder a cab for you before retiring for the evening.

Just now on my way back from my First MR to SJU. I was on the ground for 18 hours.

A couple of comments:
1) Taxi costs added up. To hotel: $13, To Old San Juan $20, Return to hotel from Old SJ $20, Return to the airport $13. - Taxi total $66. This would have been less...will be less on my next trip as I will not go to old SJ.
2) if I plan to explore on my next trip...I may use a Free Rental car day.
? How much is hotel parking/parking in general?

A note you may all appreciate. This trip was booked using a VDB credit...so $0 out of pocket on flights.

Original Booking:
PHX/LAX/JFK/SJU/ATL/DTW/PHX

On the way back (this morning). I SDC'd to an earlier run (same cities). Checked in and DTW/PHX was asking for Oversold Volunteers...signed up. Got to DTW and was selected as the Volunteer. Got upgraded, and $400.

Added an extra stop DTW/MSP/PHX.

Well worth the trip...looking forward to my next trip 9/29 - 10/1.

Thanks to everyone for the tips.

Most hotel parking in Isla Verde is anywhere from 10-25 nightly.
There are some public parking (non hotel related) that could go 10-15 nightly.

In Old San Juan, there are a few public parking that are relatively inexpensive, Dona Fela, La Puntilla. A few hours there will be under $5

I'm at SJU right now awaiting my return flight. I got in around 11:30pm last night, took a $13 taxi to the El San Juan casino - it was dead, maybe 10 people playing games. Walked a couple blocks to Lupi's Mexican, they had a decent crowd I sat at the bar and watched MNF. When they closed at 1:30, I walked a few blocks down to the 101 bar. Entertaining crowd , I hung about for about 3 hours. Walked back towards the El San Juan to a 24/7 restaurant, I think it was called Don Juan. Had a nice tripleta sandwich, plugged in, and watched a movie on my tablet. Left for the airport at 5:30, got here at 5:35. FUn night. Thanks for the tips everyone.

Does anyone know if any of the hotels have 24-hour pools? I was at the ESJ at around 630am a few weeks ago after arriving on the redeye from IAH, and I think that the pool opened at around 0900 and there was even a security guard by the pool door....probably to keep beach-walkers out of the hotel  ...but I have a 5-6 hour layover coming up (arriving from FLL at 0330 and leaving at 0930) and was wondering if there might be a chance of sneaking a dip

Interesting, and I'm glad you could! What time did your flight get in? Did you have to "hide" from anyone or go into a remote corner?

Thinking of doing a run next weekend that gets in at 11:15pm, but unsure of what to do overnight. I might just try and stay in the airport, and if they kick me out, I guess it's taxi time.

Good and useful thread. Thanks all for your contributions.

I've a couple of YYZ-SJU-YYZ MRs in the coming months along with some SJU-AIH-LAX-KOA rtns. Never been to PR so will do a bit of tourism on two of these on the returns, but for overnights I've a couple of alternatives. Next week I get in midday and leave late morning, so have booked a hotel night in town at the Radisson. However, my next MR connects to a KOA run and I get in at 10:30p and depart shortly after 6a, so booked the Airport Hotel (which was a BW until last month...drats, no status recognition or points) for simplicity. Spending the night pub/casino crawling doesn't appeal to me. Doing two nights on my returns to see a bit more of the city and countryside, so booked Sheraton Old SJ and HIX on another.

I just managed to stay overnight again this past weekend...I arrived around 11 pm and flew out the next morning around 8 am.

No hiding or going to far off remote areas... in fact both cleaning and security walked past and saw me and left me alone. Of course I was actually sitting and working on my computer, not curled up on the floor sleeping or anything....

I have a Jan 9-10 MR on DL arriving at 11:45 PM with an 8 AM departure. Seems silly to leave the secure area if I don't have to. I can use Marriot points for Courtyard if I have to. I have a 4 hr layover in ATL and can shower and change clothes in the club.

Is there any more recent info than September about staying in the terminal or taxis to/from the Courtyard?

The B6 terminal seems to be 24/7...overnighted there while going to/fro on the FLL redeyes at least 3x this Fall....TSA was open, and there is even one little snack bar open as well. Plenty of outlets and no one will mess with you at all since there are night departures and arrivals there. I curled up in the corner on the floor and watched a movie on my laptop and no one even walked within 20 feet of me...it's as good as sleeping in an airport can get! Bring earplugs, as the annoying loud announcements can get tiresone.

I arrived at 11pm on 10/30 and flew out @ 6:50am next day. Stayed @ Courtyard. Cab over (solo) and shared one back (it was loading when I came out). I used points.

For me, it was well worth it as my MR was starting (SJU-MIA-DFW-HNL-DFW-MIA-SJU-MIA-LGA) and my next night was a red eye HNL-DFW and next shower after that flight.

Turns out, due to Sandy, I aborted at end of that flight, took a shower, flew DFW-PHL(earliest I could get a flight back to the NE). Got a car from my house there, drove to Manhattan to get my wife (she'd moved from our place which lost power to an hotel) and we drove back to our PHL home. Long story/long trip - conclusion is I am very glad I took the room.

I've got a mileage run from SJU next month althouh haven't quite decided how to get there.

One option is to get a flight in around 5:20pm and then probably gety a hotel for the night although most are hitting high $200-$300 range the day I'm there (the airport hotel comes in at $120 so not too bad).

Second option is to catch a cheap Jet Blue flight from say BOS. There's one that leaves around 11:55pm and gets into SJU around 4:45am so I would only have a couple of hours of so before check-in and getting into the Admiral's Club (think there's one here).

Not much more than cab fares to hire a car for the day - could always park up and sleep in that if need be and there are plenty of places around San Juan to park, get food etc.

I've slept in SJU twice and actually in SJU right now and plan to do it again. As someone said previously, the AA gates down around 4 tend to be pretty deserted late at night. Have not had any issues being discovered down there. Doubt there will be any cots there but it tends to be pretty isolated and quiet except for the announcements over the PA system.
