Hello, I know this could go in the AC forum, but I'm looking for input from US folks on this.

I'll be heading to PVG in the near future, and since airfares on US/United are about $14k in business, I will not be able to get that by my travel dept. while AC business I can get for about $4200. How does their long-haul service in business compare to US Envoy. I've done the PHL-TLV a few times in the new A330, so I've got a frame of reference.

Also, I can book with AC using my DM# and get PQM credit on US, right?

Thanks in advance!

To answer your last question, yes. I've racked up about 15,000 US PQM flying on AC this year, including one flight that was a LH ticket on AC metal.

Make 100% certain that your name on the AC booking is exactly (letter for letter) as on your US account (or whichever one you're crediting to).

The AC Executive First (business) is very similiar to the Envoy Suites on the A330s in terms of the seats. Food on US I find to better and service is probably about the same. AC does have better airport lounges.

+1

The seats are quite narrow, though. Plus amenity kit is the smallest in the industry- CX/SQ/MS give out better kits in Y.

Food order is strictly by AC status - Super Elite first, then Elite, then Prestige, then all other folks - there is a good chance you will not get your preferred main course. IMHO food is slightly better on AC.

Champagne is a real champagne (Drappier) and not sparkling wine as with US:D

Lounges are much better with AC - real food, real self-service booze.

Nice... :)

Yeah, for Star Alliance there really aren't any better options. So guess AC is the best of what I can find at this point. Thanks!

Yes.

Before my divorce with US, I would fly AC FRA-YYZ 2-3x a year and get PQM to my DM account.

My boss has done flights out to PEK in C class to avoid the exhorbitant fees charged by United on their non-stop IAD-PEK and on any PEK connectors.

For the $7,000 difference in fare, he's will to accept a slight differential in food........

The one issue you have to deal with is that apparently flights to some US cities at YYZ is run out of a remote terminal that is extremely time consuming to get to (especially as you have to pre-clear US Customs). Be sure you have plenty of time blocked in to make this connection.

I think the yyz to pvg route usually is a 777 on AC, so if you're on that one you get the self service bar on the AC 777.

I do this a lot (BOS-PVG), 5 times so far this year. AC is SO MUCH better than UA. YYZ much nicer than EWR or ORD. The AC planes are much nicer, and yes they are the 777's. The club in YYZ is excellent; premium drinks, real food. The flight staff on AC is much more friendly than UA. I like that I clear US customs in Canada on the way home, when I get to Boston I just get into my car and go home.

1. I think it depends upon which UA 777 you are on & which class of service.
2. Much prefer US Envoy's Suite to AC's coffins.

I haven't flown US Envoy yet, but I can tell you I greatly enjoyed AC's C cabin greatly. Planes are all fairly new (ca 2007-2008) and it has a great seat. I had a great crew that took good care of me.

I wouldn't hesitate to take AC in C again. You won't go wrong with it.

Great, because I think I'll have like a 5 hour layover in YYZ.
