What does the new B6 San Juan terminal offer in the way of restaurants?

Dunno if that has improved in the few weeks it has been open but someone flying through in the first week or so said it was pretty sparse. Welcome to FlyerTalk! adambisi Aug 16, 12, 3:00 pm A few years ago I did BOS-SJU-BON with a 5 hour layover in AA's SJU terminal. Not a good place to kill 5 hours. I thought the amenities were sparse back then and it looks like nothing has changed. sbm12 Aug 16, 12, 5:23 pm A few years ago I did BOS-SJU-BON with a 5 hour layover in AA's SJU terminal. The building itself looked much nicer when I saw it shortly before it opened a few months back. But the couple reports I've heard since it actually opened suggest minimal concessions. So cleaner, but otherwise not a lot better. jj1987 Aug 17, 12, 5:57 am The current JetBlue facility is not the same as the old AA one in SJU. From what I've been told, concessions are limited now, but on the way. greatexpectationsusvi Aug 18, 12, 8:27 am To answer my own question, there are sadly no restaurants (yet) in the new B6 San Juan terminal where I am now sitting. There is at one end of a central area a take-out coffee/ice cream shop and at the other end, a bar, both of which offer cold food to go with a half dozen empty cubicles in-between designed, one would assume, for a sit-down restaurant(s) or shops, but now empty. Behind the (empty) shop space is a beautiful area with tables and chairs overlooking the tarmac. Opposite Gate A5 there is a (self-proclaimed, gourmet) hot dog stand offering, so the sign says, Nathan's hot dogs and a couple of (hot) Puerto Rican sandwiches. Right next to the hot dog stand is a vending machine which seemed quite popular. Not all is bad, as there is free WiFi to which I can attest as I await my flight back to Boston. sbm12 Aug 18, 12, 11:50 am Not all is bad, as there is free WiFi to which I can attest as I await my flight back to Boston. That is definitely an upgrade! The other connectivity options around SJU suck. Even cell service was crappy the times I've been. dougbroda Mar 19, 13, 4:56 pm To update: Just flew SJU-JFK. The SJU terminal is still largely vacant -- there are the bar/restaurant and adjacent grab-and-go; the gelato shop/bakery; and the hot dog cart. However, I thought the food at the bar/restaurant (which has a hot food menu) was OK, and the gelato shop/bakery had an extremely large and wide selection of gelato and baked goods (both of which were sampled and very good). The terminal itself seems to have more flight capacity than B6 is using, based on the schedule I saw -- whether that's just overbuilding or an expansion/partner is planned/hoped for, who knows. Yes, the wifi is still free, and yes, as far as for a Verizon customer is concerned anyway, the cell service in San Juan is atrocious. (Though my IPad didn't do too badly around town; it, unlike my phone, is on AT&T, which advertises widely in San Juan media.) dcstudent Mar 21, 13, 6:37 am Is it safe to assume you can't go to any other terminal/concourse airside? I ask because I am an AAdmirals Club member, but flying Jet Blue out of Puerto Rico in a few weeks (love the DCA non-stop and "even more space"). sbm12 Mar 21, 13, 11:22 pm You might be able to get past the TSA but it probably isn't worth it unless you are going to be stuck at the airport for several hours. The two areas a a decent hike apart. DL2SXM Mar 25, 13, 10:02 am when landing in SJU from an international destination, for example. SXM to SJU, does jetblue participate in the global entry program? JetBlueFA Mar 25, 13, 11:34 am when landing in SJU from an international destination, for example. SXM to SJU, does jetblue participate in the global entry program? Global Entry isn't airline specific. Anybody can apply and go through the process to get cleared into Global Entry. Whether it is offered at airports is left up to that of Customes and Immigration. I do believe, however, that Global Entry is available at every airport that sees international traffic. Including SJU. I know 100% that it is offered for you at SJU. It's at the far right had part of the immigration area next to the crew and diplomat lines JetBlueFA Mar 25, 13, 11:35 am Is it safe to assume you can't go to any other terminal/concourse airside? All the terminals are interconnected w/o having to go through a seperate security check. Several times I've walked from the new building to Subway in the old concourse to get food because SJU hasn't installed any food options in our building yet. sbm12 Mar 25, 13, 12:17 pm I do believe, however, that Global Entry is available at every airport that sees international traffic. If this is the case then it is only recent that they finally got to that point. There were a lot of gateways without GE for a while. I know 100% that it is offered for you at SJU. It's at the far right had part of the immigration area next to the crew and diplomat lines:cool: JetBlueFA Mar 25, 13, 12:46 pm If this is the case then it is only recent that they finally got to that point. There were a lot of gateways without GE for a while. That may still be the case and you may be 100% correct but for me I know that MCO, FLL, BOS, JFK, SJU all do have Global Entry. If I do any more international flying I'm going to get GE as lines have been horrible, even for us crews. DL2SXM Mar 25, 13, 6:08 pm Global Entry isn't airline specific. Does jetblue need to add my passport information to my reservation so when I go to use the Kiosk, it recognizes the flight I was on? JetBlueFA Mar 26, 13, 7:42 am Yes your passport information would need to be added to your reservation. I believe that this can either be done by the website or by a customer service agent at the airport. If you're going down to SXM I'm jealous. That's one destination that's been on my list for some time but just haven't found the time to get down there. sbm12 Mar 26, 13, 12:45 pm thats what I thought. Does jetblue need to add my passport information to my reservation so when I go to use the Kiosk, it recognizes the flight I was on? Happens when you check in for the flight and they scan your passport in to the APIS system. |
