United MileagePlus (Consolidated) - Could not purchase RDM/PQM at check-in.

Was planning to purchase miles. Interestingly, the amount offered increased after my upgrade into GF cleared. It had been the actual flight miles or 2X that amount, but increased to a flat 12k or 18k after upgrade. Only problem was that when I tried to enter my MP#, it was rejected repeatedly. Finally gave up and checked in without purchasing miles. Don't even know the rate for PQMs because it would not display (because I could not enter my MP#).

I guess I'll try again at the airport.

Has anyone else had this problem? How did you get it resolved?

I just posted about this to respond to someone's question about the amount of PQMS being offered. Up through April for me, I had been offered a multiple of the actual miles on the itin in question. After April, only 12K or 18K miles, no matter the actual miles of the itin. I have never "resolved" this. There's no way I'm going to blow thousands on PQMs. I can think of better ways to use my money.

I am 1K, however my brother an his daughter are GMs without status. PQMs offered on their itins continue to be multiples of actual miles flown. However, my husband is also a GM (lost his status) like my brother and niece and since he was on a reservation with me, his PQM offer was also 12K or 18K miles.

UA must have some demographic data that suggests that people with high status have a lot of money, and so may be trying to snag a few people who will part with thousands of dollars. If someone does it, it's great for UA because they get several thousand dollars and don't even have to actually fly someone somewhere. Dunno. That's my theory.
