United MileagePlus (Consolidated) - SFO-KWL routing recommendations (in Y)

Title says it all. I'll probably originate in SEA, but it looks like I may have more choices out of SFO.

Flying in Y (sigh), can't believe UA flies such long flights with no AVOD. Hoping there's an alternative routing or alliance member. Definitely have to have the miles.

What about SEA-EWR-PVG-KWL? EWR-PVG is on the sCO 777, which I believe has AVOD in Y.

UA's routing rules for SFO-KWL do not permit backtracking to EWR. UA's routing rules do permit a connection in Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, and Seoul. Flying a 777 to one of those cities would provide AVOD that a 744 would not.

Just came back here to post exactly that - can't double back. However, for some reason when I was exploring those options leg-by-leg, LAX came up. I don't like LAX, but it appears that UA does fly a 777 from there. I had also been looking at PEK connections, but it looks like going through PVG is closer to KWL. I've got a reasonable amount of time, but from what I've seen, there's no way I'm likely to get full miles for the last legs (to/from KWL), so I might as well keep those flights as short as possible.

Thanks for the help!

Well .sux is offering me that routing when i did a dummy booking.

Is it causing a fare break on that itinerary? It might be the case that SFO-EWR and EWR-KWL is cheaper than SFO-KWL, but I suspect that's unlikely (and .sux is less concerned with finding the absolute cheapest fare for you).

Plugging in some dummy travel dates into ITA, I get roughly the same fares for SFO/EWR-KWL. Turning it into an SFO-EWR-KWL itinerary makes it more expensive as it's adding a SFO-EWR roundtrip to the cost.

You do realize that I stated SEA-EWR, not SEA-SFO-EWR? OP stated he is originating in SEA and he has to get to SFO. I just cut SFO out of the equation and set SEA as the origin.

I haven't even looked at Air Canada because I'm flying in Y. I want advance seat choice and on UA metal, I can get E+ or exit rows at time of booking.

The OP's subject line was SFO-KWL, so I directed my discussion towards SFO-KWL. Nonetheless, SEA/SFO-KWL have similar routing rules that do not permit backtracking to EWR.
