First of all: Don't know if this is the right forum to ask this, but I'll give it a try.

My case is: I've booked a trip with SK from OSL-SFO. The route is OSL-EWR-SFO. OSL-EWR is SK, and the EWR-SFO is UA. I know I can try OTo for the OSL-EWR, but I wonder if there is any possibility of doing an upgrade for the EWR-SFO? I'm not that familiar with UA and the options they have. I've read somewhere that you can pay an upgrade at the gate with UA?

Would be great to get some advices!

Thanks in advance,
S

Generally those upgrades are offered during checkin on an UA machine. Assuming you are with Eurobonus, I think the only option you have is to upgrade with miles through *A. I think this requires Y/B fare though.

If no upgrade is available for you, I would shoot for E+.

You assume correct, I'm with EB. I will still be able for paying for an upgrade?
Surely a stupid question: E+?

While I never heard about paying for a First/Business class upgrade at the gate, they do allow for E+ purchases at the gate. I guess you could classify regular economy to E+ as an upgrade.

Economy Plus (E+) is economy with a few extra inches of legroom but no additional service compared to regular economy. It makes a big difference. Some CO planes do not have them while they are converting the entire former CO mainline fleet after UA and CO merged.

Another assumption is that you are flying on a SK ticket with codeshare UA EWR - SFO. So, you will probably check in with SAS at Gardermoen, right? If so, I don't think the SK check in agent will be able to process any UA related upgrade request on the SK system. I might be wrong.

If I were you, I would check in with SK, walk over to the UA checkin stand in the terminal if the desk is staffed at that point in time and ask there if they have E+ seats for sale. They might not be able to process this since you are codeshare (which I of course assume), but perhaps worth the try.

Or, as mentioned earlier, you can go to the UA gate at EWR and ask to pay for E+. That should work if there is space available.

Lykke til!

If you obtain the UA PNR id (not the same as the SAS PNR), and you want to get E+, you can the purchase (online or on the phone) as soon as you have been ticketed. Waiting until the day of travel may lead to disappointment or a lousy seat. E+ access is likely to be $75-$100.

Upgrades in the premium cabin for EWR-SFO by an non-UA elite is very unlikely. EWR-SFO is a tough upgrade for top-level UA elites.
