Does anyone know if it is possible to pay for an event at a Marriott (autograph collection hotel) with a giftcard?

If you have a $10K+ giftcard I don't see a problem. But the best thing to do is ask the property (and your company ;)). Alternatively, get a Marriott Visa w/ a high credit limit & pay for the event w/ the Marriott Visa (5pts per $ spend at Marriotts).

Can you get the 5pts for buying a giftcard?

A few years back, I was able to charge Disney Tickets for the whole family to my room and I used GCs to pay off my balance when checking-out. (Still have the free luggage from purchasing those GCs too. :) ) So I would guess that as long as the charges are being added to your room folio, you should be able to pay with a GC.

But given the amount in question, I would definitely take SkiAdcock's suggestion and ask the hotel directly (just to be safe.)

You mean, if you use a Marriott Visa to buy the giftcard? No idea. Maybe someone who has one can chime in. But if you have a Marriott Visa, why not use that instead of the giftcard?

Buy a $1000 giftcard and get $1100. This would save my company money (I own the company)

But in any case, depending on if Marriott has a GC promotion (and what it is) it might make sense to go the GC route (i.e. 10% off the GC plus bonus points or free luggage or FF miles, etc might be worth more than the extra points on the Visa.)

I bought ~22 of those puppies! :p:D They were the BEST luggage. My PP40Jr still has a bright green and MrsPP40 has a pink. My family LOVED Christmas that year!!! :p

And you can use TopCashBack to get 5% additional (it works VERY easily) for a grand total of $1500 bonus on a $10K spend!!! :)

I know if you doing a meeting they wont take them, maybe if you can get them to bill it to your room but they werent willing to do that and didnt want to mess up getting the Meeting Nights credit, so I used my MR CC for the meeting charges and my GC for the room

probably a YMMV issue depending on how each Hotel wants to handle it. I know a Hotel that accepted $1M in payments from an Amex CC but they told my friend they wont bill it to his room, so he couldnt get the additional pts

The back of the giftcards are showing they are good for food and beverage. The major cost will be food at this event.
