As frequenty travelrs know, the service and availability of cars can vary widely by location and date. Recently rented cars in the "premium" category from Enterprise (using USAA discount code), at both SMF and ONT. At SMF, there was a good variety of cars, and the attendant on the lot detailed what our choices were. Finally took a Ford Taurus, which was very good, roomy and upscale (wood paneling, satellite radio). At ONT, the counter attendant said we could choose cars on the lot, but once we got to the lot it became a matter of "whatver they bring you," and an attendant drove up with a Buick Lacrosse without asking us what we preferred. We did see some other cars, including Chrysler 300s, but she said those were dirty. The Lacrosse is a nice car, but smaller (especially in trunk size) than cars like the 300 and Taurus. And it didn't have satellite radio. We took it since it was just for 3 days and there was only one sitaution when we'd have to transport many bags, but in other situations we probably would have been more insistent about having the 300 cleaned and brought to us (something the staff at ONT did not offer to do).
