I'm looking to fly MUC-NYC/YYZ-MUC. Outbound should be economy, inbound business. Will AY allow me to mix? (the first leg of YYZ-MUC is a codeshare operated by BA, everything else is AY metal). Thank you! ps

Thank you! ps Flythe96flag Aug 14, 12, 3:46 am Are you flying Finnair (AY) or Icelandair (FI)? Anyways I don't think making such a booking is possible online on finnair.com, but you could always give them a call. intuition Aug 14, 12, 3:47 am Assuming you mean Finnair (AY) and not Icelandair (FI)? There is no easy way do do it yourself, but a TA may be able to book it. Sometimes the AY pricelist is such that a mixed ticket will be more expensive than a pure business class ticket. planestupid Aug 14, 12, 5:49 am Oh, of course I meant to say Finnair (AY). Sorry, this will be my first time on AY. Thank you for your replies so far. I called the Finnair service centre three hours ago and they will email me a quote. As intuition said there seems to be no easy way to mix the two classes. I'll report back. intuition Aug 14, 12, 6:22 am We'll be interested in hearing the result! ^ While you wait for your qoute, here is why Finnair got they IATA-code: AY is a bit odd, especially since Finnair been around since 1923 and most other now flying airlines are founded later. One would think AY was first in line to be name FI or something like that. But the company was originally named Aero O/Y, and only took on the name Finnair in the 60's IIRC. planestupid Aug 14, 12, 8:37 am We'll be interested in hearing the result! ^ While you wait for your qoute, here is why Finnair got they IATA-code: AY is a bit odd, especially since Finnair been around since 1923 and most other now flying airlines are founded later. Glad it wasn't called Aero O/W! :p The call centre got back to me after a few hours and it turns out the economy/business combination I had in mind is dearer than business all the way. That's because the cheap economy fares have a three-day minimum stay whereas the cheapest business fare has none. Interesting. I guess I'll go ahead and spoil myself. :) TTL Aug 15, 12, 12:37 am Not the easiest routing to get from AY booking engine... open jaw and codeshares. How is the routing back? YYZ-LHR-HEL-MUC or HEL left out? Edit: well, actually not that difficult, multiple destinations worked out well. In the end of August I got a J ticket for € 2669... For comparison: HEL-NYC and YYZ-HEL would have been € 3051! You get MUC-HEL and HEL-MUC in J for a very reasonable price of € -382. planestupid Aug 15, 12, 5:29 am Not the easiest routing to get from AY booking engine... open jaw and codeshares. A lot of time on planes, I know, but as this is my first time on AY I'll enjoy the experience I'm sure :) |
