He will not be traveling, just me. Once I get a yes or no I might have more questions - thanks.

Yes, if he makes the reservations.

Yes, he will have to ring Hhonors to make the award in your name. It can't be done on their website.

I have been able to make a points reservation for someone else online in the past. All you have to do is get your hubby to make the reservation, and in the comments of the booking, add that you will be the one checking in. It's in essence the same as calling in to add your name to the reservation.

... Or your husband can just book the reservation online and then call in to the HHONORS number to add your name to the res.

Sure if he is smart :)

He can make the reservation in your name.

That seems easy enough - thanks, everyone.

Yes, and if you have status, most of the time the hotel will extend the upgrade to your husband. (that is my experience with int'l properties.)

I've used my points to book reservations for others, relatives or friends, with nary a problem over the years.

I'm bumping up my thread to ask a different question (and I probably know the answer :( ...still me traveling alone, now it makes more sense to pay for the room than to use points...any way we can get the points for the paid room credited to his account if I'm the one staying?

No he just makes it online for 2 people and includes your name in the comments or in the field for the second guest.

Same answers as above. You are added to the res made in his name so you can check in. Avoid mentioning that he will not be joining you, just in case.

Same story
Booking in 2 names with his as primary.
I am HH DM and routinely book all my wife's (silver) stays in my name along with her.
Saved a ton of money abroad with free lounge and food and MANY more points to me than to her.

Hilton will let you do that without you checking in if she is travelling alone? I thought the primary always had to check in at the front desk eventually to get the benefits and points even if the secondary person checked in first?

A good friend of mine (who I travel with quite a bit) is only silver with Hilton and has a couple stays coming up. So if I book the reservation in my name as the primary and him as a second guest, and he says he is checking in first, I'll get the points and he'll get the benefits. I know he would rather have my diamond benefits than his silver points, and it would work out great for me since Delta has the MQM promo going on and would get me some rollover MQMs.

And they will not ever expect him to check in at the desk? Is this, like, you know, un...un...

I always call and make reservations for others with my points, and I believe that is how HH expects you do do it, rather than booking online and adding names/comments. Have never had a problem and don't want any issues for those who I set up for a stay.

I booked an award room for my Mom at a hotel near her house (a vacation from my Dad ;) ), made the res in my name then called up and gave the front desk her name for check in. Told them exactly what I was doing, but feel free to skip that part.

Check in went fine, and Mom decided on her own to stay for another night and pay the extra. She got "my" upgrade, and I got "her" points. Everyone was very happy that day I can tell you...

Maybe I should not have just added on to this old thread...we are NOT using points, we are paying for the room. Any difference now?

How were you getting points if it was a reward stay? Or did she have food charges to the room?

Many properties will give the benefits. The Hilton Atlanta will not give lounge privledges to golds unless they are upgraded to the exec level. Someone in my office is a gold and when she has business there, her husband will book her room in his name (he is diamond) and he gets the 50% bonus and makes it easier for him to maintain diamond (she is gold via credit card) and she always gets lounge access and a full breakfast instead of the bag breakfast. Seeing the Hilton Atlanta never gives suite upgrades to golds, it's improves her chances for a better room with his diamond status than if she were to use her gold status. Win/win for both of them.

Mom decided on her own to pay to stay another night

Eujeanie- just paid for my Dad-in-law to stay in DC on his way to visit us from overseas. Didn't emphasize that I would not be there, but asked "if I am not there can you charge the room to my card?"

They said I could, but this is for two weeks from now, so no confirmation. I believe (no proof) he will get the upgrade, and I will get the points, and even if he has to pay for the room, this will happen. This is stretching it, I know, as basically I am booking a room for someone and getting the points even if they pay for it...but his English isn;t great and this was practically the best way to handle it. OK with me if I don't get the points or he doesn't get the upgrade, but bet it happens.

And on my Mom's visit, as I said, she stayed an extra day and paid for it, and I got the points.

I am Diamond Hhonors, my wife travels a few times each year on business. She uses my Hhonors number to book reservations, her first initial (same for both). In some cases, she is asked about me, explains that I will be arriving later - never an issue.

I have a friend that has a few trips coming up, so this is good to know. He is only silver and doesn't fly much so the Hilton MQM's wont do him any good. It will be a win/win for both of us if I book the reservations in my name. He will get lounge access and/or breakfast and I will end up with 750 extra MQM's on Delta to rollover with the current promo.

I'm not sure how you could book your friend's reservation in your name...usually you need ID and credit card to check in...in my case, since it's my husband (same last name) I think it is much more reasonable.

I've decided to go the route of res in his name, my name in notes that he will be checking in later. I'm still getting over my angst about cheating Hilton :(, but I figure it's payback for the misery their website has given me. ;)

I'll just put him on as a second guest. He has checked in before me on other reservations where we have shared the room and used his credit card (we travel together a lot and sometimes I pick up the room and sometimes he does) since he lives in another city and sometimes his flight gets in before mine.

I have told Hilton before in the past he is my domestic partner to take advantage of the spouse stays free benefit so it may be in my profile with them somewhere anyway.

I also wouldn't feel bad about "cheating" Hilton. I'm furious about how they are screwing me over on the citi 2-free weekend night offer so I don't feel bad about getting 750 MQM's and getting a good friend free internet and breakfast. In fact on of his stays is at a Homewood so the only thing Hilton is really "out" is 250 mqms.

Well, I'm back. Much ado about nothing. The hotel could have cared less about who was there, who wasn't there, who checked in, who checked out.

Well, I'm back. Much ado about nothing. The hotel could have cared less about who was there, who wasn't there, who checked in, who checked out. That's generally my experience, but occasionally you get a hotel that really cares. In that case, you can either admit the truth, "My husband made the reservation for me." Or you can say something like, "Originally he was planning to be here, but he couldn't make it." Sometimes in these cases, the hotel appreciates the honesty and will still give you the perks anyways. In most cases, depending on when you check in, the upgraded room will be pre-blocked, so you will usually get that no matter what. But I have been denied breakfast vouchers at least once because the Diamond member would not be staying at the hotel.

Or you can lie and say he won't be arriving until later, and ask for 2 keys. If you get unlucky, they will ask for him to stop by the Front Desk and show his ID before you check out, (occasionally this has happened when I legitimately checked in earlier than him...) so I prefer not to use this approach.

FWIW, when you book with points, it is literally impossible for hotel staff to remove or change the HHonors account associated with the stay, and it is completely valid/permitted to give award stays to other people. In that case, the guest(s) usually get full elite perks and the member gets points and stay credit no matter whether the member actually stays. Not sure if that's policy, but it is a shortfall of the Hilton IT system. (One of many shortfalls. :D)

Yes, you can book for you. No "but" and no "don't". It's that easy with Hilton.

Usually when someone else uses my points for a Hilton stay they get the perks.

Now if I could only figure out how to get my wife's AA first class upgrade benefits when I fly AA and she could get my PM Delta benefits when flies Delta I would be very happy:D

I have had the front desk ask my wife, when doing this, to have me (the Diamond accountholder) stop by later to verify. Not all that often, but occasionally. I think last time she did not get the upgrade/benefits, but I did get the points and stay credit.

My dad knows to say if asked, "My son reserved the room; he knows the HH website and I do not."

On the other hand, some hotel clerks have actually said, "We don't care who checks in and whose HH account it is." I usually do a non-refundable prepaid rate, which may help the process.
