Hilton HHonors - Surpass: 2500 bonus points for every HHonors stay?

I recently stayed at the DoubleTree in SEA and was surprised to find a 5,000 bonus on my account noted as "American Express Point Bonus". Soon after that I had a stay at the Embassy Suites in ATL and was given a 2,500 bonus.

Curious about this, I called Hilton and asked what they were for. They said they didn't know -- that Amex had given them to me.

I then called Amex, and they told me the 5,000 points was actually two bonuses of 2,500 each in SEA. The 2,500 point bonus was for my one stay in ATL.

(There were two charges from SEA -- as they had forgotten to charge me for the last night and made a separate bill up for that.)

I had never heard of this bonus, and still don't see it on the Amex website. The agent told me it is given for all stays charged to a Surpass card and there is no limit.

These were my first stays since I renewed my Surpass a couple of months ago, but I don't remember ever having them on my old Surpass card.

Is this new?

I can tell you I charge stays weekly and never received this bonus

When I first got my card I got something around that as a bonus for the first 4 or 6 stays. If you just renewed I don't see why you'd get that. I usually book on Hilton.com and don't see anything like that for me.

I had a Surpass card, demoted it to a regular card in January, but when I saw that I would probably put $40,000 on it this year upgraded it again about two months ago in order to reach Diamond.

Generally, this would not be considered a "new" card by Amex and I am certain that I don't qualify for the 60,000 "Welcome bonus" as the terms specifically state, "Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have had this product within the last 12 months or any other Consumer Hilton HHonors® Credit Card account within the last 90 days".

Still, I had the same thought as you did and asked the rep specifically how many times I would get the 2500 per-stay bonus and he insisted that it is limitless.

I also received such bonuses for the first several stays after getting the card. It was an advertised benefit, I believe.

I suspect that you're benefiting from a glitch that somehow considers these stays as involving your use of a new Surpass card rather than a renewed one. But if they end up being limitless, even better!

the 2500 is for your first 8stays, they didn't seem to expire, as I was getting mine years after I signed up and stayed at a Hilton. I think I got the bonus when I went to Surpass also.

I just had my first stay since upgrading to Surpass and received the 2500 bonus. I had maxed out on the 2500 bonuses with the regular card. This is a regular feature of the card, and it must be an unpublished benefit of upgrading to surpass -- you can earn more 2500 bonuses.
