Avis - Avis lost a car on their own parking lot

I was trying to catch a 6 pm flight from BOS on Friday, and was a little bit late. So when I arrived and Avis Logan facility to return a car, I was hoping someone would check me out quickly. Of course, Murphy law: there was noone around, apparently, they were all hiding inside, 'cause it was slightly raining. So I waited for 10 min, then went to the bus - as I usually do, and Avis would e-mail me my receipt before I would even reach the airport. Not in this case: today is Monday, and I'm still waiting for them to close the agreement. Apparently, they didn't realize the car hadn't been checked out, and drove it back to the parking lot, where I'm sure it is sitting right now. Of course I called them several times, Logan facility doesn't even pick up the phone, and worldwide CS is looking into the same computer as I do, and telling me the car is not showing returned.
My concern is actually the fact that I'm going to rent another one tomorrow, in EWR, and afraid they might not let me, because of the previous car not returned.

Just got off the phone with a really nice CS Suzan, who went extra mile and called the location, where she got ahold of another really nice CS Nancy, who actually closed the agreement. Much appreciation for both of them!

I'm dealing with the exact same problem right now in the San Diego airport Avis location. 1 week later and they still can't close the agreement.
Same issue as you, no one answers the phone there either.

even if it wasnt close, you should be able to rent another car without any issues

Correct. Most times if you have an Avis car out and try to rent another, the agent will just ask if you know you have one, if you really need a second, when do you plan to return, etc. I often rent a car in City X, leave it with a coworker when I go to City Y and rent another one. Since employees of the same company can drive an Avis car without issue, it's not a problem (and I like collecting the FF miles instead of my coworkers..). The most cars I've had out at once is 4 :D

Hang on. I'm calling shenanigans on this one.
I rent from Logan on 2 out of 4 weeks out of the month. At 6pm on a Friday at the return facility there is no way that you waited at the return center for 10 minutes because everyone was hiding inside. Thats just nonsense.
Logan is a incredibly busy facility. They have a half-dozen folks returning cars at all times, especially 6pm on a Friday, when Logan is still busy.
Sounds like you waited 10 seconds.
