US Airways Dividend Miles - Need about 8,000 miles - need some help

I have 2 tickets on hold for 3 days. Trying to avoid having to buy 8,000 points. Are there any promotions going on right now that give bonuses for buying points?

I just transferred about 6,000 Starwood points to US air, but it says it can take 4 weeks for the points to be credited to the US Air account.

Anyone have any suggestions re: best way to get the extra points? I am actually flying well over that total at the end of August, but I am worried that if I wait until then to book the trip the award availability will be gone.

I'm in the same boat. Need to grab about 5K for a flight to Europe. I have been using emiles, the dining program, and magazines. Just trying not to spend a ton of $.

Starwood points should not take more than 3-5 days on average. Maybe you can extend the hold for a few more days if you explain the situation?

I do not remember US - but search the Grand Slam threads - there is a lot of info there on times

I would just call at once early Am on the 4th day and rebook Just give the PNR and ask if they can hold it again - they will

Go to the US site and book a flight, say, PHL-SFO rt to start. When the site gets to the "Payment" page, you will be offered the "Dividend Miles Multiplier" as well. Buy the amount of miles you need. It's only 2 cents/mile.

You must call US within 24 hours of booking the flight and cancel the reservation for a full refund on the price of your ticket. But the extra miles you purchased are still yours.

Keep in mind that the total miles listed in the Dividend Miles Multiplier will include the miles that you would earn by actually taking the flight! Since you will not be taking the flight, only the extra miles purchased are yours. Make sure you do the math!

If PHL-SFO doesn't give you the amount of miles you need, try other city combinations until you find what you need.

yep from my personal experience, I have had 3 award tix on hold for more than a week because I called them and explained I need a couple of more days. one of the CSR on the phone actually sighed but didn't say anything and still went ahead and did it.

Of course you run the risk of losing those seats during the time it takes to rebook everything but the risk is fairly slim if you ask me.

gsscorecard.com says SPG posted on Mondays for any requests of the previous 7 days

(i.e. request must be in by Sunday to post on Monday. Monday requests posted the following Monday.)

If you put the request in on Sunday, you must have missed the cutoff, and should expect the miles to post on Monday at the earliest.

you may be part of the promotion, US is offering buy one get one bonus on miles, so you could buy 4000 miles and get the 8000 you need. It's worth the price of losing 3 reward seats.
