It'll be nice to hit one of the olympic slopes before the game starts.

Anyone have details about the quality of skiing in Korea? I had reservations for Alpensia last winter, but couldn't make it. What's it like -- good snow, efficient ski lifts, decent crowds, annoying dunks on the slopes, etc? I grew up in the Bavarian Alps and now ski in CO/UT/BC every winter, but when it comes to Asia, I've only ever skied in Japan. Is Korea worthwhile?

If you normally ski in areas such as CO/UT/BC, then I am afraid Korea will not be anything exciting. Resorts tend to get very crowded during the weekends. Most of the ski area towards the Main lodge/resort tends to be filled with skiers/boarders that seem to find a way to get in front of you no matter where you go. More advanced slopes tend to thin out the crowd (true most everywhere), but decent runs are not very common. Snow condition itself generally is not that great. Unless you go the day after a nice dump of fresh snow, the majority of the time the snow feels like some kind of hard wet cement.

Having said this, I would recommend you to go at least once. Perhaps you can go during the weekday or a non-holiday.
