United MileagePlus (Consolidated) - How does UA get passengers from KWI-BAH during frequent IRROPS

Not sure if this belongs in another thread but hopefully, someone knows the answer to this.
I am meeting a couple friends in BAH next month. Against my advice, they are coming on UA from IAD (both are 1K's using GPU's and want the mileage). The reason I say "against my advice" is cause I just saw in the cancellation thread that UA canceled the KWI-BAH portion of 982 that goes IAD-KWI-BAH almost 40% of the time in July. I imagine they can't just leave passengers sitting in Kuwait till they decide to operate the full flight since there are visa issues for most passengers. Does anyone know if UA automatically rebooks passengers on any of the other 7 daily non stops offered by Gulf Air or Kuwait Air or is it every man for himself? Is UA legally responsible for getting everyone booked all the way to BAH there or can they just tell people to sleep at the airport for 24-48 hours until they decide to actually operate the fully scheduled flight (even if they offer hotel, if you don't have a visa, you don't get in. That airport looks like a refugee camp this time if year & I would not put anything passed UA these days.

Appreciate it if anyone knows how UA handles this situation

I can't speak for the KWI-BAH flight specifically, but if UA cancels a flight for a reason they control (i.e., not an act of God) they will re-accommodate passengers on other airlines, especially 1Ks. I have had this happen on other intra-Asia flights (and countless domestic flights) without problems.

Though nothing can be assured with the new UA, it seems this basic principle still holds.

That's what I thought but I have no experience since 3/3. I believe most of these cancellations are for crew scheduling reasons. A full C tkt on another carrier is just $400 so that's the best option if UA won't get them there but then I assume the luggage is an issue.

I know folks who have been on that flight and had it actually go IAD-BAH, skipping the stop in KWI because of crew issues or some such. The outbound flight then stopped in KWI- I presume the folks who accidentally ended up in BAH found themselves on that outbound as far as KWI at least.

It isn't a bad run- I prefer the one brief stop in KWI and then a 12+ hour nap to a layover in Europe. Of course, any flight out of Saudi for a break is a good flight at this point!

That would actually make a lot more sense since UA can't seem to get this flight in proper order anyway. Just schedule it as a "circle". (IAD-KWI-BAH-IAD or IAD-BAH-KWI-IAD). Although, as I mentioned fares within the Gulf are very cheap if you get stuck. I usually take EK anywhere in the Gulf but looked for myself at taking the DXB-DOH flight r/t w UA (to qual for my 25K map your dreams bonus). Nixed that idea DXB-DOH R/T In F on UA was over TWICE what EK/QR charge. Very common for European carriers to do these extra runs but they charge half what the a gulf carriers charge so I dont get why UA Thinks they can charge more :rolleyes: LX flys DXB-MCT w F fares less then half that of EK. I think UA has gotten so good at nickle & dimeing people w fees that they forgot how to make money w straight fares. They charge more then CX/SQ/EK in many routes that it's just comical.
