Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles - Comfort Class Quick Report- Live Posting From the Cabin

Okay, so this post is my shameless opportunity to exploit the free wifi on my plane. I'm flying LAX to Istanbul and this is my first time flying this airline. Wow, I am impressed! My history: I've flown the major 5 European airlines and Air Canada in the past (all in economy or Y+). To start, the wifi is decent (maybe a little slow). However, I was successfully able to make a Skype call from my iPhone, so it must not be that bad.

They gave us so much food during the first meal, that I wasn't able to eat dessert (although it looked great). The chairs are equivalent to domestic first class in the US. The entertainment system is unbelievable... I mean they already have "The Avengers" and lots of other new releases on here. It was VERY difficult choosing a film. The Turkish music is lovely and they basically have the newest full album of every major American singer.

The amenity kits are in a black bag and might be the same as economy. However, we also got slippers and excellent headphones (for an airline at least).

The not-so-good so far, the guy next to me who wanted to talk politics and religion and wouldn't stop. The flight has been a bit turbulent. However, these two things have nothing to do with the airline to be honest. Also, the flight attendants aren't amazing (mine dropped food on me and didn't apologize)... However I've seen much worse.

5 hours to go. Everyone else is asleep (I cant sleep on planes... So grateful for the entertainment system). Ive taken photos and video and will share in a couple of days. Might do a full review of Comfort Class.

Disclaimer: my ticket cost $500 more than economy. If it was closer in price, this would be a no-brainier for the rest of my life. I paid the exact same price on United Economy Plus two years ago... Now I know what REAL Y+ is.

I have exactly the same opinion as the OP. I believe TK's Comfort class is one of the best out there for this cabin. Everything is near perfect and totally agree with all the points from the OP. My only complains are
- cabin crew - i feel that they are a bit distant from the passengers and all of them dissapear after the cabin service and you don't really see them anymore until the next cabin service.
- seat - if they had made made it possible to raise the footrest slightly higher that would have made it a perfect seat.

and the most important, is to be able to upgrade within the Star Alliance upgrade award. Currently only TK frequent flyers that can do this upgrade.

Cheers!

+1 I had the same awesome experience LAX to/from IST in CC. The food was on par with other airlines' business class. And I have the same complaints about crew and seat. I also have a hard time sleeping on planes, but I think I managed a good 3+ hours on the LAX-IST leg. I loved loved loved their inflight entertainment.

Actually CC is in decline. When TK first introduced it, I thought it was great...everything the OP touches on...it was great. Now, the first thing to go south was the food...it really seems as if it was replated economy food and everything seems to be smaller. At first I could order the fantastic turkish coffee and different liquors...but now it is the standard fare as in Y...also the seats collect fuzzy balls that are a complete turn off for me and is looking really tired. The ride was fun but now CC is still a class above economy but not anything like a standard business cabin...the price has gone up, too...now if I am on personal flying I up-purchase to CC at the airport...still the best deal

Wow that is great info as I am looking to book a CC ticket tomorrow. I am purchasing directly from TA website and the price is about $600 more than a regular ticket. Is it possible to upgrade from LAX to a CC and is it less expensive that way?

Not surprising at all, given how they're pricing Comfort Class at just a slight premium above Economy - as well as the cheap upgrades at check-in. They've finally realised that they can't justify the high overhead and have cut costs. Previously, I read that Business Class amenity kits were passed out near the introduction of the product, now it's down to Economy Class ones.

I think the at-airport CC upgrade price was something like 200euros or $300USD or somewhere around that, so it's about the same as what you are being quoted. I only saw that for the LAX-IST, but I didn't see it for IST-LAX at the airport.

i had a chance to expereince CC last year, early in the program. they were still offereing the business class amenity kits, which was great, i think i have 4 of those now from LAX-IST flights. but then they started handing out the economy bags, bit of a let down, as even the items inside the bag r different. but at least the food, the slippers, the seats were still worth it. i hope that those things haven't gone too far south either. I personally enjoyed all the food offered, although it was a bit much, so i can accept a little decrease in portions. but make sure to keep the china and real silverware. as for alcohol, I was never impressed with their selection. slthough better than eco, just never had what i like.
oh not sure its worth mentioning, the staff r a bit distant, and r good at acting dumb like they have no clue what u just said in english. on my other trips where they handed the economy amenity kit, i saw a few passengers getting the blue bag from business, i assumed asked in turkish as there was conversation and laughter. when i tried to ask for one in english, the attendant acted like i was speaking some weird language he had no clue what i was saying. even when i pointed at the person that just got one.

hoping to do a LAX-IST-(somewhere in india) flight later this year, trying to figure out my company rules on flying business, but will at least fly CC.

Heh, my employer's travel policy explicitly states "economy class". Good thing it's called "Economy Comfort". We'll see what the bean counters say when I submit the expense report!
