United MileagePlus (Consolidated) - 10AUG2012: Boeing 757-200 aircraft #5548

Mother is taking UA599 from SFO to HNL, which is #5548. This flight is scheduled to depart at 6:55pm. By tracking this aircraft, it does not seem to be an on-time departure. Currently this airplane is UA900 SAN-SFO, which is delayed and to be arrived in SFO at 3:39pm. Then it has 2 more trips before flying to HNL:

UA497 SFO (4:10pm) SAN(5:46pm)
UA930 SAN (6:06pm) SFO(7:31pm)

And next UA599 still can leave at 6:55pm? The status hasn't changed.

Will UA send another 757 aircraft to fly to HNL, since it hasn't updated the status?

Thanks!

Although they can use a replacement aircraft, they're likely just slow in updating the flight status. This isn't an uncommon occurrence even when the inbound plane is already in the air and is known to be late. Annoys me too, but it's just how it is.

You probably won't see the change of the flight status until the boarding time. It will always be a last minute announcement.

Unfortunately not uncommon for there to be no plane at the gate 15 min before departure because the arriving plane is still in the air and the flight status will still show it as on time. :td:

Looks to me like 599 is currently showing 9pm departure on the mobile site, which fits with the new posted arrival time of 8:15 for 930.

I don't put much faith into flight status tracking anymore. Was flying IAD with inbound from PDX. Inbound flt showed delay but outbound status wasn't updated until 30 mins prior to departure. Of course at this point I knew I'd blow a connection so hightailed to the UA Club to rebook onto IADSAN nonstop. Still showed ontime....well sked time rolls around and the inbound hadnt even left DEN. So only then do we find out there was a 4.5 hour delay. I realize delays happen but you didn't know at least 30 mins prior to departure that your inbound ac wouldn't be able to turn to the outbound ontime?

Title pretty much says it all.

I was booked on UA 930 today, SAN-SFO. Supposed to depart at 3:33pm. Got numerous updates announcing the increasing the delay in 30 minute increments. Flight ultimately left at 6:56pm. I wasn't on it. By that point I had already cancelled my ticket, bought a walk-up fare from WN, and was more than halfway home.

Ironically, another FTer's mom was scheduled on the next flight that plane was to do out of SFO:

This plane had a bad day; scheduled to start the day at SFO after a red-eye from OGG, it was first off to SAN but for some reason diverted to LAX, then to SAN, back to SFO, then back to SAN for the segment to SFO. It was hours late most of those segments due to the diversion.

Its crappy for the two OPs but it happens -- and the UA system is stretched so thin it usually ripples throughout the system. I ended up at SFO about 10 hours longer than expected (overnight) this week because of a maintenance issue on an aircraft coming into SFO from SNA that resulted in the crew more or less timing out by the time they arrived at SFO.
