Hello experts,
I have short question: can I call UA to ask for E+ seat for my companian that is travelling on a separate reservation? I am Premier Gold.
I was thinking of booking it on separate PNR because of CPU luck.
Thx

If they are on the same flights as you can call and all should be fine, in theory.

Short answer: yes. Call the premier line, have both PNRs handy and they will take care of it for you.

Did this for my wife's itinerary on LAX-SFO-OGG and bumped her up to E+ with no charge for the upgrade.

Related question - does the person you're traveling with have to be seated next to you? I was thinking about putting my friend on my itinerary, so he can join me in E+, but he's a big guy and I'd rather not have him in a middle seat right next to me for a 6-hour flight (BOS-EWR-EDI).

I would think you'll have a mixed bag of responses from agents on this. I have tried to get a companion on a separate PNR moved to E+ after I was upgraded and been denied because I'm no longer in the main cabin.

Apparently that particular policy survived the changeover:
