Will be traveling to Europe within the next two months and I would like to know how do rail passes work?
My Itinerary as follows, prefer in 1st Class
Venice to Geneva
Train EC 42
Geneva to Paris
Train TGV 9772
Paris to Amsterdam
Thayls
What rail pass do I book and where do I book it? How do I make reservations on specific trains after purchasing the pass?

You aren't really travelling enough to justify buying a rail pass, so you would be better off buying tickets individually.
Venice - Geneva: book on trenitalia (http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=ad1ce14114bc9110VgnVCM10000080 a3e90aRCRD).
Geneva - Paris: book on TGV-Europe (http://www.tgv-europe.com/en/).
Paris - Amsterdam: book on Thalys (http://www.thalys.com/fr/en/).
Even if you buy a rail pass, you would have to pay hefty supplements on these trains, making it even less cost-effective in your case.

+1
See Seat61 for a detailed discussion of these issues: Should I buy a rail pass or point-to-point tickets? (http://www.seat61.com/Railpass-and-Eurail-pass-guide.htm#Should you buy a railpass or pay-as-you-go)

Thanks!
The French TGV's and (many) other reservation only trains, have restricted availability for Railpass holders, so even if the trips OP proposes were long enough to justify buying a pass, some of his route may not be available to him.:td:
