InterContinental Hotels: Priority Club & Inter-Continental Ambassador - Buying Ambassador at an IC?

Just curious, but do you think there's any benefit to purchasing Ambassador directly at an IC? I have a September stay coming up at the IC Buenos Aires; all reward nights. In fact, 99% of my IC stays are reward nights.

You have more chance to get a nice upgrade when paying the Ambassador when check-in, as members of staff have bonuses/objectives of Priority Club/Ambassador enrollments.

I would advise then to check at the Ambassador desk, and kindly ask for an upgrade.

I paid with points (32,000) to get AMB.. and with the Chase PC visa, i got 10% of the points back..
so net cost was 32000 - 5,000 pt voucher - 3200 returned = 23,800 points.. not bad i think.

Yes, I considered that option, but I like to keep as many points in the bank for use with Points and Cash rates. I'm hoping that if I make the purchase on-site at an IC, they will throw in some extras for that stay even though it will be an award stay...can't hurt?

Can you charge it to your hotel bill and therefore get the multiplier as if it were a hotel charge that is subject to the 10x multiplier, as well as the multiplier from the credit card for IHG property charges?

I've asked about this before, and I seem to remember the answer was no. Something about the charge is placed directly through to different pay system than the hotel?

Some hotels will let you charge it to the room however it will appear as a 'non-qualified' spending amount similar to parking fees....

Well at least when using the P/C credit card to pay same, you will earn multiplier points on that amount as it will be subsumed within the entire hotel bill that does earn the multiplier points from the credit card, even if you don't earn it as a qualifying hotel expense that gets multiple points.
