EL AL Matmid - Finally: 3.7 billion NIS approved for reform of Israeli aviation!
According to this scource (https://mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment/u/0/?ui=2&ik=69d869bbd1&view=att&th=1390931124099e91&attid=0.0&disp=inline&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P_TeiP3d8sZGNhz_VgTlALb&sadet=1344502940969&sads=kodL-aj6QFO-lsXFN3QOdkaXV8Y), 3.7 million shekel has been approved for the years 2013-2015, for the reform of Israeli airports and aviation, and to implement regulations required by the FAA, including the following:
250 million NIS to be invested in Israel's national airport including building a new national airport in Timna.
100 million NIS for a new control tower at Ben Gurion.
863.8 million NIS improving air saftey and changing runaway systems (hopefully no more near mid-air collisions) including lengthening of runaway 03/21 which will be used as the main landing runaway (is 03/21 the one which goes parallel with the terminal or the diagonal one?).
36.8 million NIS for new system to improve and have more control on ground movements (hopefully no more ground collisions).
405.1 million NIS to install a new automatic security check system - HBS (anybody know what the HBS system is?).
758 million NIS to build more parking and new fourth area for gates.

758 million NIS to build more parking and new fourth area for gates.
Does that mean we are going to have A gates? Or E gates? In addition to the B, C and D gates?
250 million NIS to be invested in Israel's national airport including building a new national airport in Timna.
100 million NIS for a new control tower at Ben Gurion.
So let me get this straight- a new airport, near Eliat, is going to be built for 250 million but 1 tower is going to cost 100 million? Something seems off here.
Also wondering where they are getting all this money.

They also just announced they are raising taxes. So to answer your question, they are getting it from me. Regarding the runway changes at TLV, they've already been working on this for a while.
By the way, am I the only one sad to see the eilat airport going away? I like landing right in town.
More parking -> please no! I feel like I won the lottery when I arrive and long term parking is full. Then I get to park in the short-term and don't have to take the silly bus to get my car when I get home.

With how much?
Whats the scource?
They should approve another 3.7 billion for El Al for fleet renewal:D

I think BizFlyin is talking about general taxes in Israel, not airport taxes.

Israel actually has one of the lower sets of air taxes certainly relative to the EU and Canada...
They could reasonably raise it $5-10 to pay for some decent improvements....
those #'s quoted don't add up to 3.7 billion NIS anyways, but if we round to that, that's $1 billion, on the round figure of 10 million int'l passengers a year, that's $250M based on the current fee level, but an extra $10 in fees would easily service debt on $1 billion.
In any event, the airport needs additional screening space in the terminal, as well as the additional wing or two.... If the authority can get away with it, it would be nice if Lufthansa would build a *A lounge in the new wing.... LH does run a few flights there, plus LX,TK,OS,CO,US...

What they need is for all the screening units to work when it gets busy, as well as well as operating a few more than just a handful of the 40 something passport control booths...
As for a *A lounge I fully agree (being discussed at the moment in a couple of threads on the Middle East and M&M forums).

I meant income taxes, sorry. And possible VAT as well.

*A sounds like great idea! It would be a welcome addition. More than enough LH and LX pax without including SN, AC, UA, TK and US.
